we were litrilly just talking about that

Well, if it makes you feel any better, Wayne Train is our Daddy and Read would be a 50 goal scorer if he played every game vs. the Sabres.

Well, none of Provorov/Morin/Hagg/Sanehim need protection. Schultz, MDZ, and Streit and pending UFAs. Ghost and Gudas both need protection. AMac shouldn't be protected. Who is the better choice right now?

Yeah, if we can flip a deal for Ryan Pulock with Laughton as the center piece, go for it. Actually, I'd inquire with Pittsburgh about Pouliot.

- jmatchett383

You know who would interest me if they don't plan to resign him. Erik Gudbranson. I know he isn't favorable in the fancy stats but I like a guy like that who play some big minutes in a shutdown role. They moved McCann for him but would they want a young center like Laughton back since they might soon be moving on from the Sedins.

Could be some defenseman that teams can't protect that maybe you could swap Laughton for. Then protect the new defenseman instead of manning. It would have to be the right guy. Still fairly young type.

Dudes,

Let's hope Girouxdini's greatest disappearing act in the NHL lasts at least one more game and Gostisbehere continues to live up to his nickname. Thoughts of Ghost being a flash in the pan has got to be running rampant in Flyerland.

Yes, it makes me feel very warm and fuzzy.

Out of genuine curiosity, do you make it a point to visit every Sabres' opponents blog on game day, or is it a service you reserve only for specific teams?

I agree in general, although I don't like Gudbranson.. However, at present, without knowing who the mystery D is, Manning is the choice by default.

Pysyk on Florida is a name I like as a young RD with shutdown abilities.

Interesting thought with Tampa in crunch. Would you trade back cheaply for Coburn? Can play RD easily, 2 more years, and his underlying numbers are great again.

- Mononoke

Yes, just to see 2real's head explode.

But yeah, protecting Manning would be a waste of an asset imo.

Again, at present, who would you use the 3rd D slot on? Which current Flyers' defenseman would you use this valuable asset on after using the first 2 on Ghost and Gudas?

I know that LV taking Manning is a pretty big stretch, but at the same time, if you don't have any better options (at present), why even entertain the risk?
- jmatchett383

Once my application is reviewed and I become GM, I will acquire a player that is better than Manning, and protect him instead. I will also make Manning wear a sign that says FREE on it

I'll be curious if there will be a lot of swaps like that. One team has a spot to protect a defender but not a forward so make the trade to a team who could protect a forward but not a defender.

Like Laughton or Cousins.

The flyers could move one for maybe a defender that they could protect over manning. Someone that might be an upgrade over manning and still fairly young.

Well I do live in the Philadelphia area. Only other team I would consider visiting on gameday would be the Leafs. That's more because I can't stand them though.

I work near Hatboro, PA so it's a good guess he's a Sabres fan that lives in Flyerland. Talk about misery

Yes. Again, 100% agree. However, at present, who is the best choice to use the 3rd defenseman protection slot on after using the first 2 on Ghost and Gudas?

This is why I listed Manning. I'm protecting him over all the ones we have to protect (AMac by the weekend qualifies) currently after Ghost and Gudas. MDZ would qualify and move ahead of Manning if they resign him before the draft but I can see Hextall making side deals with agents on things like that. We'll give you an extra 100k a year (hypothetical number) to wait until after the draft and such.

I agree 100%. Manning.

The only way that would change for me is if they traded MacDonald and resigned Del Zotto.

But at this time the ONLY defenders that you protect are Manning, Gudas and Gostisbehere because the others are UFA.

I wouldnt mind Hickey

would kick the tires on someone like Koekoek and Nesterov, Mueller...I dunno there are a lot of guys I would be willing to take a chance on over Manning. I would LOL if LV decided to pick Manning

- YuenglingJagr

They all suck though. Hickey's not bad, but he's a LD.

In your vast wisdom, which 3 defenseman currently on the Flyers would you protect for expansion? Or would you just not use the 3rd slot?

Again, it's an asset. Trade for a player cheaply before expansion makes them vulnerable. Yes, if the Flyers couldn't swing ANYTHING, it would have to be Manning. The point is, the Flyers should have the presence of mind to not waste that valuable asset on a #6 journeyman defenseman when teams will be holding a few garage sales on better players with better fits before the expansion draft. The Flyers are one of the best set-up teams for the draft. They need to pounce.

I guess you could protect 8 skaters and a goalie but I still don't understand the reason for leaving a player unprotected just for so.

I guess you could protect:
Gudas
Gostisbehere
Giroux
Voracek
Couturier
Simmonds
Schenn
Raffl
Stolarz

Both teams got what they wanted.

Kings got cups, Flyers got some nice players.

- J35Bacher

Columbus got a cup?
