You need to stop harping about the trade and start looking at the player.

Lehner will most likely never live up to that 1st rounder in your eyes even if he wins a Vezina.

The fact is Murray gave up a first for him, you can hate the trade all you want but if you want to look at the stats he is putting up as a goalie he is putting up good numbers for a starter in this league.

Murray gave up a first for a starting goaltender like it or hate it but the fact is Lehner's numbers in 48 games played in a Sabres uniform are pretty good. A .922 sv % is nothing to over look.

Henrik Lundquist: 0.912 and 2.55GAA (gave up 4 or more 4 out of last 10).
Robin Lehner: 0.921 and 2.53

I think you mean "paid" first of all.

And second of all, Lehner has a better % of games where he allowed under 3. So, no, it's not the same.

I like both goalies. I'm just sick of people making it sound like Nilsson has been so much better, when he hasn't. His save % is a bit higher and GAA a bit lower.

I'll say it again, the goalies aren't the issue. I've said it time and time again.

- HonkFortheGoose

Goose, you are correct. The fixation on a supposed goal-tending issue is misplaced. As i said yesterday, the Sabres have the 6th lowest save % in the NHL. Instead, Murray needs to spend his time on:

- upgrading the Top 4 D
- upgrading the Top 6 (wing)
- asking Blysma why his line combinations are so lousy and why the Sabres always start the games so poorly

Keep the faith!

No. It's suuposed to be the reaction of someone who is looking at a black and white tv. Plus its a troll of 89 cause he always reacts to anything trump.

I really was pretty non-sensible in hindsight.

They were talking about Lehner on WGR the other day and made a good point. They compared many of the fans thinking about Lehner to the way the fans thought about Vanek.

In Vanek's case, he was held to a ridiculous standard because of the contract that Edmonton gave him that we had to match. In Lehner's case, people are doing the same thing, but because Murray gave up a 1st round pick.

Basically, the moral of the story is that Lehner has had crippling expectations heaped on him before he even put a Sabres sweater on because too many fans will be fixated on the fact that Murray gave up a 1st rounder for him.

At 34 you would think he would at least have 2 more good years left in the tank but maybe the years of being the work horse is getting to him, other than the lock out shortened year which he played 43 out of 48 games he has never played less than 60 games until 2014-2015 when he got hurt

It's making me wonder if the Rangers style of play for those really good years has more to do with his numbers prior to this year. They're clearly playing a different type of game this year than they have in the past. It's been a focal point for every analyst that I've heard talk about them this year. How Vigneault has them playing a run and gun style now.

during one of the games that was nationally televised (may have been chicago) the announcers mentioned how good the sabres goalies have been despite getting any goal scoring help and what the record shows.

This is pretty accurate.

His next contract will be a huge deciding factor about that trade. If he signs a contract that is good for the team 4 years at $4 million per or less and he plays well or even a little better people will still hate the trade but maybe slightly less

I put the paying the 1st rounder thing on Murray not Lehner. he's a good goalie and its not his fault murray paid the first. But my point has always been that his kind of production is replaceable. Same year Isles signed Greiss on the cheap and have gotten great results out of him

Unless its one of the truly elite or truly awful (who was that guy in columbus who nearly cost us the tank? lol) most goalies stats seem to be a product of the team in front of them.

No people are mad because you gave up a first round pick in the 2015 draft which was one of the deepest that's why .. He threw how many first round picks away ?

-And he gives up three goals in the game
- and he sucks on shootouts

- people like him because he can punch people in the face

Funny the same thing I have been harping on since the Lehner bashing started.

He is not getting goal support. Hasek got .41 goals a game more from those Sabres teams he carried for the 90's

It was definitely the Chicago game. The broadcasters of that game were actually giving the Sabres a ton of props in that game overall. Which is odd, because usually they like to just point out how bad we are.

The people that do like him can be objective about a player beyond what was given up for him

Unlike you who writes with pure emotions and not facts

I loved the red ones too but always see so much hate here about them. Sure, writing BUFFALO so large on them at the bottom of the sweater sucked, but I loved the bold color change and logo.

The thing is, during those years the rangers were notorious for just bleeding shot attempts against and scoring chances too. on paper it reads like lundqvist was carrying an incredibly awful D-core (excluding mcdonagh and yandle for a brief period).

I haven't checked in a while but at one point this year they were doing alright defensively in terms of what they were giving up. In the games against buffalo just from watching him he looked really....average.
