Agreed, Very happy with that trade considering we got some good value out of McGinn as well.

The goal for the offseason should be getting Eichel a legit winger & Getting rid of the dead weight on this team.
- Flynox

That seems to be the next step. This season will be pretty much getting the team together. It hasn't been too many games that the team has been complete and healthy.

I think Disco Dan was upset his golden boy got sent down by Murray, didn't say one word to Murray the whole practice while every other coach was by the bench, didn't even acknowledge him.

I liked that he was aggressive, it didn't work out, but if it had, we would be celebrating

Considering the stage of development the Rangers are in and the impact that will have on Jimmy's next contract , I certainly understand his choice.

I won't rule it out based on what we've seen. Im not down on this teams future as a whole I just dont think we have the right guy in charge. More perplexed by why he hasnt received more criticism.

- Sabresfan-365

He's received a ton of criticism, especially this season/year.

I wonder what the worth would have been considered to be for the following players after last season ended:

Zadorov, Grigorenko, JT Compher, and Joel Armia

I ask that because it feels like, outside of adding top end picks to those players, and not just one of those players but at least pairing those players together, making a trade for a high end player just using the names mentioned above would not have worked, again, unless top end picks were added.

If you are OK with having all of those players on the team and keeping the two 2015 first round picks, that means you subtract the following:

O'Reilly, Okposo (IMO), Lehner, Nylander, Kane, Bogosian

In their place, you have:

Zadorov, Myers, Grigorenko, JT Compher, Armia, (note the rest of this is a best guess) Colin White, Jack Roslovic, Jeremy Roy, Olli Juolevi/Matthew Tkachuk

How much better is that group now and more importantly in the future.

I have no idea regarding the future.

- MEBSabresFAN

Compher is solid, he was hurt and missed some time to start the year but 17pts in 21 games in the AHL so far.

Roy got a knee on knee in rookie camp for the sharks and is going to miss the year so who knows with Roy now

how much worse is it? we're bottom 5 right now

Difference is it gives you a lot to work with in terms of assets and cap space.

Also probably factor in that myers/stafford could have been traded for draft picks/prospects instead

Not at all Kaiser. Im saying the opposite. The franchise chose not to stand pat when it probably should have and the results have brought us to about the same point as standing pat would have minus roughly one poop tonne of assets.
- Sabresfan-365

I understand now, I think. What you say is true with respect to results in terms of standings in the league.

But here's where I bet you and I disagree. I believe that a rebuild is a process that shows only marginal improvement in the standing until the last pieces come together and something clicks. When that happens, BOOM contender, perhaps even seeming to come out of nowhere. For us, I think the last pieces are the top LHD and a true sniper. I think the pieces gradually acquired get us closer to BOOM than the team's place in the standings shows right now.

You seem to believe that we could have delayed the acquisitions and hold the poop tonne of assets to be able, in the year we choose to do it, to duplicate the acquisitions of ROR and Lehner and Kane and all the others obtained with Murrency (please note: I will not argue their value individually), together with the last pieces that go Click and then BOOM all in a single year?? Cause if you think something different, all youre doing is delaying the rebuild and delaying the success, you're not speeding it up.

In some way - unless you're willing to delay the success - your proposal is the same as Murray's: Rebuild Express by spending a poop tonne in a short time. You just want it done in later years with more picks and drafts.

So we could agree that JT's working on maybe being an NHL player in the future, Roy complete unknown, and Grigerenko w/ Zadorav

Still skill wise, Zads. He is maturing on the ice and is getting bolder, still have faith in him but since EJ got hurt, he has been stuck with beauchemin, tyutins and he has hurt him.

Compher is the safe money bet. Hes going to be the 3rd line C later on this year. Guy is legit and pesky. Him and AJ greer have great chemistry in the AHL and will be called up as line mates post deadline, thats my guess

I won't argue with the assets comment, especially regarding the players I listed that may have been drafted.

I do wonder how much value, and what kind of return said value would have brought back, if they had held on to Myers, Zadorov, Grigorenko, and Armia through last season.

It feels like they traded both Myers and Zadorov at their respective high points of value, at least so far.
