Admittedly it's kind of easy to see the last time it happened...but the rhetoric is getting ridiculous now...

Since Eichel's been back, the team has been scoring more (2.77 per game) and likely playing a little bit more open-throttle (not to mention the CONSTANT complaining on these threads about at least half of the d-corp).

Prior to Eichel they were scoring 1.85 goals per game

- stashu

i couldn't remember if it was 3-0 or 3-1..

but i see that we couldn't come back from that deficit ..

You get the same play out of a guy you gave a 5th for
- GERBE!!!75PTS

I remember when we made that trade, almost all on the board were upset we traded away a 5th round pick for a back up goalie.

People seem to overreact a tad here.....just a tad.

But this is all based on the defense in front of a goalie right?

You have been on the Sabres defense is terrible minus Risto and McCabe train.

Look at the numbers Lehner is putting up with that crappy defense in front of him.

I am still taking Lehner over Peterson for the simple reason nobody knows what Peterson will be. Lehner is proving himself a capable starter. Give him a better defense and his numbers will be better than what they are now and they are good now.

- Stripes77

If Cal Petersen thinks he should be the starter here sooner rather than later and doesn't think he should have to prove that for a year or two after he leaves college, then he can go elsewhere anyway. Don't need that kind of "me first" attitude on the team, IMO.

(Nothing he's said or done leads me to think he feels that way, FWIW)

Not that i disagree but are there still people who aren't? (i kid of course)

Lehners save % looks good but things like high danger save percentage remain below average. It makes you wonder if hes the benefactor (or at least his save percentage is the benefactor) of disco's parking of the bus.

I am glad I am not the only one who sees this...

Complain they gave up a first for him (in a deep draft no less) then let him walk for nothing...

Makes total sense

Baker pointed out that we're still the only team that can offer him the chance to play a little in the nhl right away + burn first year of elc combo, like they did for mccabe, fasching.

Might be enough

There was a decent amount of people screaming about how they should have just signed Johnson and that Nilsson was going to be a trainwreck.

I was not one of them.

Technically you need three goals to win
- GERBE!!!75PTS

You need that in the NHL all the time.

3 goals get the win

Funny story the Sabres are something like 15-1-6 when they score 2 or more goals a game

They were talking about Lehner on WGR the other day and made a good point. They compared many of the fans thinking about Lehner to the way the fans thought about Vanek.

In Vanek's case, he was held to a ridiculous standard because of the contract that Edmonton gave him that we had to match. In Lehner's case, people are doing the same thing, but because Murray gave up a 1st round pick.

Basically, the moral of the story is that Lehner has had crippling expectations heaped on him before he even put a Sabres sweater on because too many fans will be fixated on the fact that Murray gave up a 1st rounder for him.

- HonkFortheGoose

I don't put huge expectations on 21st picks overall in the first round based on the bust history overall in the NHL and the history of the Sabres picks at 12-13 and lower. Staffords, Barret Heiston, Jiri Novotny, Joel Savage, Danielle Paille, Marek Zagrapan, Dennis Perrson, Tyler Ennis, Mark Pysyk, Zemgus Girgunson, Nakita Zadorov. So the 21st pick overall to me was not gold like it was to some. Also, when players look like superstars in college and juniors it more often than not means they won't be at the NHL level if taken at 21. Those are USUALLY talent at the top of the draft.

I meant you have been on that train since the beginning of the season while others (myself included) weren't there yet

Making saves is making saves. That's the way I look at it. Stop more than 92% of the shots you face no matter where they come from and you should win more often than not

I wasn't upset either, Nilsson was doing fairly well in Edmonton before he was traded to St. Louis.

The other thing people are forgetting or just not taking into account is the other goalies traded that day (or few days)

Jones
Lehner
Lack
Talbot

Out of those four, the only one really doing better is Jones, and he cost more than what we gave up to acquire Lehner. Many teams needed a goalie, it was a sellers market.

Jones is also doing it on a very very good team all around...yet here we are banging our heads off the wall talking about a goalie when its pretty obvious the team around said goalie isn't where it needs to be.
