It's not just for women anymore!

But seriously, men reporting being abused by their wives/girlfriends is on the rise, and is likely close to 50/50 to men abusing women. Women are more likely to verbally/psychologically abuse men than physically.

Anyone else at the game today? Sounded like the crowd was really booing Girgensons during the Carubba Collision. I know he gets a lot of poop on here, but I was surprised people in the real world are tired of him turning into a good player.

People probably boo'd the Carubba Collision in the arena because they wanted the McCabe on Laine hit to be the one. It was classy that they did not choose that hit as it was still to be determined how Laine was at that point.

They weren't booing Zemgus.

They were booing the fact that the Carubba Collision was not the McCabe Laine hit, which they explained on the broadcast was due to Laine being hurt and nobody knowing his condition.

The only thing that doesn't make it intuitively obvious to me they were booing the no McCabe hit was I thought the broadcast said the CC was a hit by Gionta?

I'm sure he's got a concussion, but nothing official yet, Paul Maurice said there was no update. And he also said he didn't have a problem with the hit which is nice.

Oh I'm sorry, I consider a 3rd round pick to basically be (frank) all.
- Larsson_fan

You are correct except...

- you're #1/#2 D-man Sekera was picked in the 3rd round
- Johnathan Quick - 3rd round
- Brad Marchand - 3rd round
- Tyson Barrie - 3rd round
- Radko Gudas - 3rd round
- Vincent Trochek - 3rd round

etc, etc, etc

I understand your thinking that 3rd round picks are a waste. After all, the Oilers have screwed up so many 1st and 2nd round picks over the past 10-years, a 3rd round pick is meaningless to them.

Ehhh, a 3rd round pick really sucks, you're got about a 5% chance of getting a full time player, and even less for an impact one. It's a scratch off lottery ticket, that's about it. Not that there's anything wrong with it, it just doesn't have a ton of value.

I will be very happy about that, but it doesn't change the fact that the odds are terrible with a third round pick.

What's up guys? Had a busy day. Recorded the game and watched it around 5. A very roller coaster emotion type game. I was ready to just give up after the second but I'm glad I stuck with it through the 3rd. Got production from struggling offensive players in Gionta, Girgensons and Foligno which was really nice. Lehner played just okay. But some of those goals against fall on a surprisingly sub par Risto. I'm hoping this kicks in a winning streak. Seriously considering buying tixs for Flyers game Tuesday.

Side note. Read about the Cal Petersen concerns. This is a bold statement but I fully stand by it. If Murray can't sign this kid and he pulls a Reily or Vessey he deserves to be fired. You can't let the potential future franchise goaltender walk. I know Murray loves Lehner but Petersen has the potential to be great and he needs to do whatever he can to sign him.

That's a hell of a stretch. Of course, everyone under 26 is a "potential" franchise player. I didn't disagree with you the other night, but I do now. We have no idea what Petersen is. If he wins the Hobey Baker maybe I'll be more open to him being something other than a 5th round flyer on a goalie.

I said potential because I fully believe he has the potential and our pipeline is incredibly bare beyond him that I don't want to lose him. I'm not saying he'll be the next Miller but the guy has put a major college hockey team on his back two years in a row now and was named captain as a goalie. That's a rare feat and I think Murray can't let that walk just because he won't give the kid assurances Lehner is the franchise guy. The fact is Lehner hasn't proven he could be a potential franchise player either so I hope the Baker tweets were more so speculation and maybe negotiation tactics by Petersen's adviser.

He's not going to come in and play, that's ridiculous of his agent to think so, goalies don't hit their stride until they're 25 anyway, another what? 4 years for Petersen? A lot can happen in 4 years. Plus we still have Ullmark who has played well in his short NHL stint. Nilsson, if we keep him is a more than capable backup in the interim. Bottom line is he's in no position to demand anything of the Sabres, and if he does, there's the door. He doesn't exactly play in the toughest division in college hockey either. Plus doesn't he have one more year of eligibility left? If he stays in school we can't sign him anyway, so let's put off the conversation until he actually leaves school.

lol at the end of the game Byfuglien got cross-checking, roughing, and unsportsmanlike conduct minors plus a 10 minute misconduct. Whoever had him in HBSL was really happy with his 36 (frank)ing points today. Lehner for his part only ended up with a roughing minor, but I'm counting that as a fight, he dropped his blocker and was throwing punches. My over under for the year, I took the over, was 1.5 fights.

.... I'm sorry I think you end up in the minority with this one. Petersen's the best goalie prospect we've had in awhile a guy Murray needs to sign this off season. I'd also like to see him wrap up Borgen as well. Get him in Rochester next year.

Goalies just don't come in and play. When they're fresh out of Junior/college. Matt Murray is an exception and it still took him a full year in the AHL after 4 full junior(OHL. Probably the best league in the CHL) seasons. And Petersen wants to come in and start after 3 years at Notre Dame which is in a poopty conference? It's just not going to happen. I'm not saying he's not going to be a good goalie, what I'm saying is that we don't know, and you can't be held hostage by a guy that was a 5th round pick to begin with. Andrew Hammond was undrafted and it took him to his 2 3/4 season after he finished 4 years at Bowling Green. He was 26 when he had that crazy 20-1-2 run for the Sens. He had 35 mins of NHL experience leading up to that.

Precedence says he's in no position to demand anything, and there's also a precedent that he'll be 25-26 before he's any good.

I'm all for him if he wants to come in and earn it. Rushing players results in almost systematic killing of the players psyche. 60% of the time it does it all the time. Go to the team that drafted you. It's only 2 years in this case, maybe 1 if you stay for your senior year(I forgot what the cut off age is for a one year ELC), and you likely wouldn't have played much anyway, spending most of the time in the AHL. Then when you're done with your apprenticeship and you still don't like it, you ask out.
