Bad penalty early in the Ducks game? I don't care. Right now he gives us a better chance at winning. - SuperSchennBros
He sat out because it was a roster move, and he had to be temporarily demoted because they had to activate ALT off of SOIR, and then had to wait 24 hours for ALT to clear waivers, so they could send him down to the AHL and then recall Lybimov. It was not a coaching decision.

Roster limit, not salary cap. Flyers had over 4M of available cap space at the time.

You called him an NHL Coach. It's debatable. Chris Vandevelde is barely an NHL player himself. Dave Hakstol is a second season coach in the NHL. Not some seasoned Cup winning journeyman who has seen it all. - SuperSchennBros
It's debatable that Hakstol is an NHL coach? Seriously?

How long were Craig Berube and John Stevens hang around for? The bar isn't that high but apparently they were NHL coaches. Surpass them. |

Well he's under contract to be a head coach for an NHL team so that answers that. I believe the more pertinent question is: how good of an NHL coach is he? I'll reserve judgement until I see what he can accomplish with a better roster. That being said, I do find some of his lineup decisions and line combos to be questionable and I do think he has a tendency to favor a certain type of player. In his defense, you could likely say the same about most, if not all, NHL coaches.
Time will tell. |

It's not like Stevens and Berube haven't gotten NHL head coaching jobs since they parted ways with the Flyers. |

I agree, time will tell. I try to look at it objectively, and there have been decisions that he has made, that I did not agree with. To me that doesn't make it a questionable decision, especially if I don't know the complete reasoning behind it. Nothing wrong with disagreeing with a coach, or criticizing a coach. It's the extreme of calling a decision on a line combo a "waste of time" before the game is even played, or debating whether he is an NHL coach, that I have an issue with. Discussing how good of an NHL coach he is, is another conversation. |

This is fair. I can meet you in the middle here. The Lyubimov move, fine, not his choice. So you decide to play Cousins or a Vandevelde. What does he do?
He made line up changes six days ago as we inserted two regulars last Sunday. We did well against the Ducks. The Rangers game, we weren't great but their goalie played absolutely out of this world. |

Vandevelde was already in, and has been in the lineup.

My argument against this is every seasoned coach had his first and second season where they learned what works and what doesnt..
To me Hak isnt the issue , not having a consistent 2nd center. Not having a way to alleviate any of the coverage away from G and Jake. Having a bottom 6 that is iffy at very best.
The good thing for me is these things look like they will be fixed with the prospects over the next 1 to 3 years.. |

Totally agree. I doesn't matter what line combinations he puts together, there will be on paper, an issue somewhere. As if we can criticize the coach for not putting together a lineup, that's not possible to put together, with the pieces that he has to work with.

Yeah I messed up. Was thinking when Streit comes back. Even I, like Dave Hakstol, can be wrong.

Actually I'll say at this point yeah. He's better than Gordon, Weise and on most nights Cousins. |
