yeah, getting to the playoffs would hurt this team because moving up 5 or so spots in the draft is more important than getting playoff experience for the rooks.. Think about it, it would be a huge confidence booster, attract good free agents, 100th year cellys.... We already wont be able to afford all the talent...

but yeah, lets all be masochistic and hope for just 82 games...

It is dumb, but you seem to be missing the point. The question posed isn't just trying to make the playoffs or not...It's whether we should trade certain players depending on if we plan to make the playoffs or not.

Obviously at this point in time, if we can make the playoffs, go for it, without trading anything that will negatively impact the team long term. It's that simple.

in no way do i want the leafs to try to load up for this years playoffs... but if they can make a trade to make them better then im all for it.. but how do you know they'll be better?? so unless something huge comes along i say they stand pat.

Agreed. I don't think a possibility of making the playoffs should really affect management's strategy too much. As I said, make any moves that seem useful with an eye on the long term.

It's crazy at Kitchener is at over .600pts% and still only 4th in division and 6th in conference and may be looking to deal for the future.

Example, David Poile calls up Bergevin and says, "I heard you are not shopping PK Subban but do you want Shea Weber?" And Bergevin says "You're (frank)ing right I do!"

In our case replace PK with Nylander and Weber with Ekblad and then we're talking. What's that? Florida won't trade Ekblad for Nylander? I guess we're keeping Willy Ny then.

There are lots on people in these leafs threads just a week or so ago saying they don't want them to make playoff cause top 5 pick is better.
