4. Not have referees suddenly decide not to give you a PP opportunity because you're the Toronto Maple Leafs

I normally just accept reffing, but there has been some stuff this year that has been baffling.

I would love to hear what is happening with Lupul. Is anyone else at least somewhat curious as to what is really going on? All of a sudden he is unfit to play in Sept and we haven't heard boo since. Clearly he is a serviceable NHL player, when healthy. Is he legitimately injured and/or hurt or is this Lou's way of saying enjoy your money kid, you don't have to lift a finger to get it, but we are burying you.

After the 1st period I'd say it was Toronto's worst game of the year. I have no clue what they were trying to do in order to keep their lead but it was really awful. It only worked because the Devils are pretty bad.

Should've been in the AHL the whole time. Nothing wrong with needing a few years in the AHL. He'll probably be fine, most players aren't ready at 18 or 19. We're just spoiled.

It's weird hockey logic.

Completely dominate and humiliate a team in the first period.

Then completely change your entire strategy - just try to limit them to 3 goals over next two periods.

Nylander could be dealt. Or one move that makes equal sense would be to make the deal that Larry Brooks suggested last year and trade Marner for Ryan McDonagh. Leafs would need to sweeten the pot. McDonagh for Marner, Kapanan and Morgan Reilly. Leafs would need to sweeten the pot and add a first rounder, JVR and Brocco. McDonagh for Marner, Kapanan, Reilly, first rounder, JVR and Brocco. Leafs would need to sweeten the pot and.........

it seems odd yeah.... my only assumption is that babcock and co. still want to teach these kids how to close out games with a lead... a "try to win but still teach" mentality of sorts
