I'm not talking about pylons like Mcilrath. Target the likes of Luke Martin, Josh Brook, Cale Fleury etc.

I still think you draft the best player available regardless of need

hopefully a great RHD college guy doesn't sign with the team that drafted him and we poach the (frank)er this summer

Go full Islanders and just draft RH D-men this draft.
- tomburton99

I'll tell you what...as insane and unconventional as that was, that turned out to be a reasonably good draft for the Islanders.

1st rd - Reinhart is a bust, which sucks. That was just a flat-out bad pick
2nd rd - Ville Pokka has done very well in the AHL so far (for CHI) and was the centerpiece of the Leddy trade.
3rd rd - Adam Pelech has been a very strong AHL player and has not looked out of place in limited NHL action
4th rd - (no pick)
5th round - Doyle Somerby is the captain of a stacked BU team and is a good shutdown defender. May ultimately be too big and slow to be a great NHL player, but there is nothing to dislike up to this point
6th rd - Jesse Graham has, on paper, put up some decent AHL numbers for BPT. Has been bounced around between AHL/ECHL this year and last. Probably will never pan out
7th rd - Jake Bischoff has 2g-14a-16pts in 18GP in his senior season U. of Minnesota. Probably a longshot, but like Somerby, nothing to hate there.....yet.

I wasn't being facetious. If the Rangers draft all RH d-men, they around to get one NHL player.

they are dressing 2 RHD now, I don't think there is a chance they would add another lefty and make it 5 lefties and 1 righty, with the one righty being Kevin Klein, who has been awful
- jimbro83

Play your 6 best for now, that's all. If that involves a call-up, and waiving Cleandening or trading a Klein, so be it.

They can address the RHD issue (if it is so important) at the trade deadline or in the off-season.

Continuing to put the same 6 out there when there is clearly a problem is mismanagement and poor coaching.

Ryan Graves has not been playing good enough where it's imperative to call him up

Hartford has been a disaster this year

I know you weren't, but it made me go back and look back at who they took and it actually turned out to be a decent draft. If they had hit with a halfway decent defensemen in the first round then it would have been a really good draft. Had they taken Rielly, Lindholm, or Trouba instead of 'Ol Griff then it would have been a fantastic draft.

AV is playing their best 6. The problem is that those guys are the best 6.

Yeah, I don't get the obsession of putting another rookie on D. I mean if someone was tearing it up with the pack, maybe they might get a limited shot. Defense is not the place you want a couple rookies, especially playing out of position, going into the playoffs.

the Rangers could win 20 in a row

losing at home to Buffalo 4-1 and looking like they didn't care is definitely going to make everyone want to trade everybody, I knew that going into today

just say they brought up Graves and played him instead of Girardi, how the hell does it work?

It's better than the alternative of playing less talented players simple because of the way they hold a stick. If its not the desired long term solution, it is at least a more viable short term one.

Its like drafting players by position. Its the 1984 draft scenario :
As the Portland TrailBlazers do you take Same Bowie at #2 because you need a "big man" and you already had Jim Paxson and Clye Drexler and let Michael Jordan slide to #3 because he doesn't fit your immediate needs and go on to regret it forever

Do you dress 3 RHD just because they way the hold their stick and shoot the puck and the balance looks nice on paper when they are markedly less skilled than your left handed defensmen

- MiloslavHorava

totally agree. playing Girardi because he ices the puck right handed makes no sense

I wonder if this team could use a poop-stirrer that can play a little, to wake them up in games like last night.
- Pete V

I've been saying this for years and it falls on deaf ears. AV coached teams are soft and he doesn't encourage that type of play. I wanted Stewart the past 2-3 years he's been signed on 1 year deals, instead we signed Tanner Glass. Especially in the playoffs u need guys that can wake a team up.

You know which pairing the other team is going to put their best players against when they have last change.

Skjei has looked lost when put on right side, he's actually looked lost lefty lately as well.

so, lets just throw Ryan Graves on the right side because lefty-righty is a non issue on hockeybuzz

Chimera would have been a really good fit for the Rangers speedy system.
