kudos are awarded to lanie for tying up the rooking scoring race last night........ although matthews does still have three games in hand....
- Mandree85

It's pretty remarkable the two of their stat lines are pretty much bang on with each other. Both are killing it. If it boils down to them having the same/similar scoring at the end, the nod has to go to Matthews for being a C.

It's pretty cool to have 3 of the top 5 scoring rookies right now. (and 5 of the top 12)

Outside of being out of position and weak on the puck on two of the goals against in the third, continuing to make poor offensive choices and force stuff that isn't there, I guess you could say that.

Reality is he's playing with Gardiner because he needs to be bailed out way too often, and between Gardiner, Polak and Hunwick, Gards is the most capable of doing so.

Carrick has been our poorest D by far in the last 6 weeks.

- mcleafs

Disagree

He was out of position because bozak shove him out of the way and allowed wide open man in front who needed up scoring.

We are getting good mins out of carrick. What we should be expecting. He's not hurting us.

Started off strong but kap and lipstick have been out the past month(back now). Missing those two and graduation of Nylander brown and hyman really hurts.

Matthews and Laine are also 3-4 in goals scored this season overall...

Right now, they have more goals than the likes of Ovie, Tarasenko, Malkin

The collection of goalies (5!) sporting 2.73 / .899 doesn't look like its helping either.

I blame Bozak more so for that, sure. But saying Carrick isn't hurting the team is untrue. His GAA when they have a lead is only better than one other player on the team: Bozak.

Carrick has been awful the past 5 or so games. he is our #4 defenseman because of a horrific lack of depth, but trying to spin that as him being a quality defender is not accurate, IMO

if we kept the ewok and all those vet's with the leafs we'd be down around 30 points right now.

No spin, he's our 4th dman. So taking him out and replace with what? As bad as he's been he's still better than others.

I would like to see carrick in a lesser role on the bottom pairing if we can acquire someone else in the top 4. Shove out one half of hunlak.

Until then, yeah, he’s top 4.

if the season ended now it has to go to matthews because he has hit the same number in points in less games. while being a center. playing on the leafs. while having to other rookies on his line

I wildly, wildly disagree. Bozak took his man on that play, and frankly, he was beat yet still did enough to block the angle to the net. Saying this goal is Bozak's fault is asking the team to never get beat on a play, ever. Unrealistic.

Look at it again, what is Carrick doing? Why does he ignore any trailer? Why does he completely become lost on the play and park himself with his back to the slot?

I agree with that. It sucks, but its true. Until they go get a top 4 dman, Carrick has to play there.

Being #4 by default doesn't mean his play hasn't been poor though. Because it has been

I'm not putting last night's loss on him by any means, but he certainly isn't helping.

I hope Carrick gets some press box time, he needs it. He's been making some horrendous decisions in the D zone lately and his weakness against the forecheck is becoming glaring.

It's a shame all the analytics sites still love to point out that he's one of our best Ds with their pointless numbers, but the reality is he's becoming a major liability.

- mcleafs

Ya he's not that great either.

We are clearly talking about different plays. I think it was the 5th goal. Bozak comes back and totally skates past 2caps players and wipes out carrick. Carrick had no chance to cove his man cause bozak blew it.

Bozak and jvr both with terrible giveaways that lead directly to goals against. Both a mess defensively.

Hopefully they trade Hunwick, polack, and see if theirs a hockey trade for jvr or Bozak, plus the vets on the farm I know that they won't get much if anything (see holland and Bernie )but they need to draft that elite dman, and I wish they could have finished with a bottom 3 but it not happening this year unfortunately! 😠

I'll tell you what i'm most impressed with....the rookies. They are carrying this team and have been for some time. I really feel that JVR and Bozie, will be shipped off. JVR first.
