He had one questionable season...
Other than that, I dont think anyone thought he was going to be a bust.

You don't think a 30 goal guy (hes scored high thirties before and I think he's on pace for 30 this year) can't get a top 4 dman?

Gez, if you can't get a dman for jvr no point in moving him.

Agreed, sure 1 GM paid a huge price in Hall for a #2? D man but it doesn't mean that is the new standard across the league. I would think JVR + should be able to land a 2-4 D man depending on age, contract amount and yes intangibles

Meh, the first two seasons he put up 20 -26 pts in 74 - 79 games but was defensively sound.
Never really was a bust.

JVR should easily get a top 4 dman. Adding extras will hopefully simply increase the quality of Dman.
But I dont see JVR being shopped unless a great offer comes in for him.

I just mean in terms of what people were saying. He didn't really get any respect until 2014 or so.

Bruins or Leafs? Cause the D is lacking on both fronts.

Yup.
Our D sucks and most of our forwards defensive game sucks once in a while...usually all at the same time.
Rielly was a bit of a mess again.

He was bound for some growing pains. Not worried about it. It does hurt seeing those you label a future number one struggle a bit though. Makes you throw your projections into question real quick.

The NHL jump often humbles almost every high end d prospect.

I hope Carrick gets some press box time, he needs it. He's been making some horrendous decisions in the D zone lately and his weakness against the forecheck is becoming glaring.

It's a shame all the analytics sites still love to point out that he's one of our best Ds with their pointless numbers, but the reality is he's becoming a major liability.

this. it's still another 1-2 years before we start to see rielly at his best.

until then, i'm glad he's being given the tough minutes to play. let's see how he gets through this.

Outside of being out of position and weak on the puck on two of the goals against in the third, continuing to make poor offensive choices and force stuff that isn't there, I guess you could say that.

Reality is he's playing with Gardiner because he needs to be bailed out way too often, and between Gardiner, Polak and Hunwick, Gards is the most capable of doing so.

Carrick has been our poorest D by far in the last 6 weeks.
