Kijiji Tanner! Have a lot of the mid to late 90's tacks, some of which haven't been used or litely used, which imho are the best skates ever made and they'll last ya until you take up the rocking chair. Dubnyk has been mediocre for a few games in a row now, hopefully he's not getting worn out. They'll go as far as he can carry them.

No one thought a joke candidate was going to win. Also, don't tell me what to do.

"Back then, I bought them off a rich kid who played AAA and whose parents bought him new skates every year"

Lot's of kids play/played with used equipment. For me, I never really thought about how much money the seller had.

That's pretty dumb.

After WW2 one of the chief concerns about democracy was the Cult of the Personality, whereby unqualified, charismatic leaders would be elected by democracies that were not well informed on issues.

Trump has a lot of supporters, but he has zero supporters who are well versed in the issues and are not extremists.

So, if you were to apply any modicum of critical thinking to this problem, you would determine that he was a joke candidate with little grasp of the issues and zero qualifications. Any other determination is woefully biased.

Nothing wrong with used equipment, but what was notable was that even used I wouldn't have been able to afford these skates. He was my buddy and he sold me the skates for $40 - I would have paid probably 2-300 for them used.

Oh Jesus, with all due respect, get a life......was my initial reaction, but I guess you're right, I should spell things correctly. However, It's New Years day and I ain't exactly feeling too top notch, so I figure you could cut me some slack.

Also, if it gives the Preds a legit chance at the Cup, then they have to bite the bullet and take on that contract. Maybe they can find someone to take Rinne. Maybe they send a contract back. Don't act like it's impossible, because it's not. Clearly they need to send a contract back or they would have taken him on waivers.

Their team stats are near the top.

Their goalie stats are near the bottom.

They don't have the record their stats say they should have.

An actual above average goaltender is available for free.

Seems obvious what they need to do.

- James_Tanner

It's as if Rinne is now goaltending behind a more flowing, offensive team that takes more risks.. Wonder if that has anything to do with Laviolette Coaching that team..

Wait, did Trotz have the Preds mostly playing the trap? Would that have any correlation with numbers Rinne was posting in past years?

These are rhetoric questions obviously, as you've already stated team systems have no correlation with goaltending statistics.

Also, Rinne has an NMC. So that ends that idea. Not approving a trade and moving his family just because some Czech goalie is available.

And it's not proper spelling. You just straight up didn't know Halak's first name. If I had to take a swing at it; you mistook his first name for Jan Hlavac's.

Buy used again. They'll already be broken in(breaking in new skates SUCKS imo). Even Sportchek has a used section if you don't find anything on kijiji or among friends and family.

Yeah I agree on the Kijiji or craigslist mention. But just make sure your feet.

But go to Sportcheck and find what brand of skates fit your feet best. Do a bit of research online to find out what others say about them as well.

If you have a contact in the States Hockeymonkey.com has some really good deals sometimes.

Yes, I straight up don't know Jaraslav Halak's name, even though he's been in the NHL for ten years. You seriously need to find a better hobby than criticizing bloggers for their spelling mistakes. It's sad and pathetic. Who cares?

The Predators are one of the NHL's top possession teams, meaning that their goalie sees some of the lowest amounts of action in the NHL.

Good try though.

The 2016 wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. We're still here, so it can't be that bad. I personally had a good year, so it's hard to square that with everyone saying how crappy it was.

Perhaps you should step away from the Rinne critisism until you understand Laviolette's system a little better.

Looking at shot totals and not considering the quality of said chances or the systems played is pretty lazy. Bad try, James.

CCM Tacks has an awesome line. I've been skating the 5092 model and they're 300 bucks but I skate 3 or 4 times a week so it's worth it to me. Hockey monkey currently has the 3052 model on clearance for 170. Remember your regular shoe size is not your skate size. I'm normally 11 in sneakers but a 9.5 in skates.

Plus: The Blackhawks are near the top of the league. Again. Nine seasons running. All with a handful of critical man-games lost due to key players already, no bonifide 1L, up against the cap again, and with several rookies in the nightly line-up.

Plus^2: That irks Tanner, the 'Hawks are good again. Make that a Plus^3.

Plus: The 'yotes are still bad.

Minus: The league wonks are doing nothing to move them.

Minus^2: Cuz the owners (in Buttmans's ear) don't get a cut of a re-lo.

Plus: An egomaniac beat someone who should be hanged for Treason. And the egomaniac wasn't close to my first choice in the primary.

Plus^2: Even with celeb twats, in-the-bag NBC/CBS/ABC/CNN and the chosen one, fly-over country over-came coastal elistists; thank you framers for the Electoral College.

Plus^3: The egomaniac is gonna save me a poop ton in taxes.

Minus: As I send my third child to college this fall, she will see safe spaces, cry-ins, cataclysmic reaction to chalk, and elitist profs trying to form a kid's opinion. Instead of profs teaching kids to learn how to think. Thankfully she is in bio-med, so the psycho's should be far enough away.

Plus: I get to see the 'Hawks in the playoffs shortly after my Cubs begin their World Series Championship defence.

Plus^2: There is no MLB salary cap, so Theo/Jed/Jason are gonna bring WS-challenging teams to the playoffs for several years to come.

Plus^3: The Bears finished 3-13, worst ever in a 16-game season.

Minus: They will (frank) up the pick, since the GM reports to a bean counter.

Minus^2: The Bears are the Culture of Failure.

It's not about ignoring wins and losses. Think of this way:

You're the GM of a team. It's the trade deadline and you're in Playoff contention with a month left in the season, thanks to a recent stretch where you went 9-1.

You have a young team and you have to measure the experience they'll gain from the Playoffs vs the fact you want to keep all your draft picks and prospects for the future when you think you'll be better.

When deciding if you should add a player or two for the stretch run, wouldn't it be useful to know whether you won those nine games because your team turned a corner or because you went on a hot streak where you got all the bounces and thus had favorable results that are unlikely to continue?

Analytics are useful for giving you probabilities and saying what is likely to occur. Keep in mind though that even though you'd bet as much as you could afford to lose if given an 80% probability of winning, that one in five times you'll still lose the bet.

- James_Tanner

Except you can come to the same conclusion from watching the team play. I watch most Flames games and can give a pretty spot on analysis of the teams strengths and weaknesses without looking at a single stat. If you're an NHL GM and you need advanced stats to tell you your team's been winning more games than they deserve to win, you probably shouldn't be an NHL GM.

I don't think analytics are completely useless, but I'd much rather have my team making decisions based on solid scouting more so than on reading charts. I also haven't seen any solid results that show that you can build a better team through analytics than you can using traditional methods.

Sportscheck had a nice $320 pair of Tacks for $120 off, but unfortunatly that deal will likely be over by pay day - and Christmas was also just hugely expensive.
