i was never on the murray train like alot of the sabres faithful seemd to be a year ago.

but one can see the thought process of kick starting the rebuild.

i think that oiler bottom feeder drought probably had a few gms scared.

instead of this never ending losing and patience, add a few proven star quality players to the core youve drafted and give them some insulation. unfortunately he overspent to do so, but only marginally paying for a middling player that cant help your team at all really isnt a much better plan (kind of what the oilers did)

and lets not forget, drafting and developing is all well and good. and certainly the financially prudent way to build, but you actually have to develop said player into a ror. and those are few and far between in the grand scheme.

who's the last top flight guy the sabres have drafted outside the top 10?

- HB77

Colin White looks great, just saying.

Also, if the Sabres don't have ROR last year, they might have Laine, JP or Matthews right now, and more cap space.

Rushing a rebuild looks really, really bad, when you are really, really bad

he does

and yep

liked that you mentioned jp in there as well. clearly not on the other two's level as of today (and potentially never will be) but development isnt always linear or the same for all players. the oil might be makin some minor missteps keeping him up at present, but he shows flashes no doubt. and hes a beast. the kid is gonna be a GREAT nhl'er at some point. maybe even better than laine at some facets of the game ...no homer

Man. Imagine if we all were GMs! We'd surely have this squad in cup contention. First, put Risto up as a forward, next year put him back on D. Strap a fake beard on him. Burns 2.0. He'll have to get a few teeth knocked out too.

And Byslma would suffocate them as well, or put them on the 4th line.

I thought this game was on at 7:00 EST and totally missed it.
Well, i mean, it doesnt sound like i missed much.
I know Bylsma dealt with some injuries this year.
But he also benches Eichel on a power play, so.....
How many more games does he get?

After hearing about Jack blowing up...I doubt he's here after the All Star break but that's probably wishful thinking at play as well.

To be fair, outside of Sam and Jack, Murray's draft picks aren't on the team yet.

Last week before Christmas I said after New Years before the all-star break. Pegula wouldn't fire him over the holidays. Rex basically forced him to do it, otherwise he'd still be here too.

watched the Sabres today and it really confirmed why I have only watched 5 or 6 games the last 3 seasons.... No energy on the ice, goaltender who is fortunate to be considered average, a coach who is about as inspiring as drying paint, a GM who is marginal at best...... Same old, same old....... They just absolutely suck and they have only "potential".... no real talent outside of Eichel..

Well they fired Rex despite the injuries. I believe and I think a lot of other folks do as well that this team has the potential to do better than it is. We show some glimpses of brilliance then..."park the bus". Really hope we can stealth tank into another Top5 pick and get Gallant, the more I read about him the more I like that idea.

No, I'm ready. Grab an interim, sell off what vets people will take and start courting various coaches. I think now is the time to pull the trigger, with the second loss to the Bruins in regulation like this we don't have any realistic chance anymore. IF we had won both games, different story.

Maybe Rex and Bylsma could swap jobs? Can't get worse can it?
