What will change? Mathews so far ahead in all other aspect of the game I don't see laine being able to change that.

Comparing them at same age, same stage of development.

Matthews and Laine are both making it look like they are already at their peak but at 18 and 19 that's likely not the case. It's too early to say Matthews will definitely end up being the better player, that's all. Right now he quite clearly is better but who knows what'll happen in the future.

To you guys who watched the OT between Jets and Redwings, Laine made a deke standing completely still only using his reach and timing. I've never seen anyone but Mario deke in that fashion

I've seen Mathew do that every other game.

The fun part is they are both so young and I'm sure they'll leap frog each other in points quite a bit over the years. We get to hear these dumb comparisons for a long long time.

Its the beauty of picking 1st overall.
Ill take it.

Skilled players do it with regularity. Apparently only Lemieux and Laine have mastered the art of stickhandling while standing still though. The toughest and most important of skills.

Meh, until laine starts closing the gap on other areas of the game (don't think he can) it's not hard to say who's better.

People saying definitively who will be better are simply foolish. No one knows.
Not a single leaf fan has watched every single jets game to see all the little things laine does and not a single jets fan has watched every single leafs game to see all the little things matthews does.
All we know for a fact, matthews was rated higher...he was the consensus #1, matthews was and is the player the leafs needed.
Both are great players, matthews has been everything the leafs were hoping for and likewise for the jets and laine.
I pick matthews 1st every single time.
no need to crap on laine....hes a little cocky but no need to crap on him (yet)
crap on gary lawless ....cause hes a fool.

Agreed.

The best part is that Laine went to Winnipeg, instead of Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa, Boston, Philadelphia, Buffalo or some other nauseating with douchebag fans.

Agreed

I would like nothing better than to see the Jets come out on top of the west someday...I'll settle for wishing them to be the best Canadian western conference team for now

I don’t think the marginal difference between laine and Mathew is quite the story other fans seem to try and make it out to be. Both are looking like top players; making the leafs and jets the big winners of the lottery.

The real story is the drop of between 1&2 to 3-5. Imagine if we ended up with Jean Guy La Stick, Bustaljujarvi or Oily Joulevi? I sure as hell wouldn’t be thinking playoffs next year with one of those guys on our roster.

Laine can _________ like no other

A) stick handle while standing still
B) no look drop pass to the other team
C) powder one top cheese into his own net
D) all of the above
