Was there ever a decision from Jero about what he thinks the team will be like? He gave a Xmas deadline.

Great win. Talbot played lights out as usual. Nice one by Gryba, good pinch. Doughty played like poop. He was flipping out. Things went good when you can make him act like that. |

Very sad to hear that Cloutier has passed. He was and always will be my favorite blogger. The perfect amount of insight and humor in every blog he wrote. I looked forward to reading every time he wrote one.
Also , i will up the ante and predict not only a playoff berth but a top 3 finish in the division.

Yep, he caved in and thinks they'll grab one of the 2 wildcard spots. |

Maroon has been a very pleasant surprise, especially since he costs the Oil less than 2 mill. |

I see you dildos are having some fun. You both know that Snow/PC would screw any trade up somehow. |

beginning of the season I thought for sure it would be davidson or pouliot taken in the expansion draft.
but as of today, its probably maroon. dude brings a ton to the table. its crazy how effective he is for being such a poor skater.
just for argument sake assuming no changes till we make our protected list
lucic
eberle
nuge
draisaitl
klefbom
larsson
sekera
talbot
one spot open.
i lean towards protecting davidson as depth on defence is so huge in todays nhl, but man it would suck to see patty go.
that said, if we expose davidson and protect maroon instead, we could forego the 8+1 goalie route and go the 7+3+1 route. which then allows us to protect another forward along with maroon.
maybe someone like caggiula who an expansion team might be looking at to add to a young roster. doubt hed be picked anyway, but itd be nice to protect.
under that scenario its davidson or pouliot gone for sure
side note- pouliot had a helluva game last night |

maroon was a good trade
kassian was a good trade
talbot was a good trade
lost in value pretty badly with hall, but we're a better team (far from that simple, but the context of the situation also helps his case imo)
reinhart was brutal. (but again, for argument sake-theres some logic to it at the time) |

Caggiula is expansion exempt. In the event that we went the 7-3-1 route, we'd be able to protect Maroon and 2 others (not just one). With that in mind, I'd be protecting Letestu and probably Khaira or Kassian. At that point, I'd arrange a deal with LV to not pick Davidson (send them a pick or the GMs son that we just drafted, Graham McPhee). |

2 more. thats right. my bad.
assuming theyd probably go after pouliot makes sense for a few reasons. guy can play up and down the lineup.
but what are the cap rules for them the first season? do they have to make the floor?
if not, they may go in another direction

They've gotta hit the floor. Without that need, there wouldn't be a mandate by the league to expose a certain percentage of cap (10% iirc)- which Pouliot and Fayne more than cover.
One route that I remain interested in is trading Eberle(+) for a package like Eakin and Honka. In light of the expansion draft, teams may find extra value in adding an extra protected slot. Particularly a team like Dallas that has a long list of expansion eligibles that seem worthy of protection (Benn, Seguin, Spezza, Eaves (UFA), Roussel, Faksa, Eakin, Ritchie, Klingberg, Johns, Honka, other Benn, Oleksiak, Hamhuis and Oduya) that's also losing Sharp, Hudler and Hemsky in the offseason could be enticed to add a scoring winger for two off their list.
Then we could just shift Nuge or Leon to RW permanently (replacement for Eberle) while adding the offensive RHD prospect we've always wanted and another C to further our depth. |
