Rex had 28 coaches....

28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think the avg is in the 15 range.

- dadeadhead

I remember seeing that...unbelievable...

seems like a lot of his cronies, topped by his brother, took advantage of Pegula's money

I am no Bills fan, I just dont see how it didn't work out. This was two of their better seasons in their drought. Realistically this is their best 3 year period in the drought. It takes time to build a team with the coaches right personal and philosophy. Perfect example is Jason Garrett and his three 8-8 seasons in Dallas.

Now they are just going to bring in a new coach, with a different system and direction. The Bills regressed yesterday.

Rex Ryan and his way too complicated system sucks. Offenses speed up and his scheme goes up in flames. The book is out on him. For some reason he has to have multiple fronts and packages for the most infinitetesimal differences in down and distance and can't even get players on the field let alone the call in on time. Mario destroyed him last year after a game about this. Rex's solution for better communication was getting more cooks in the kitchen. Yeah, great idea Rex, get more people involved to really make it a cluster (frank). I'm glad he is gone. Next year would surely be a waste with him around. This team is built for the 4-3 and Ragland coming in confirms my prognosis.

you could be right...but fact is, rex's defense was a colossal failure and he was supposedly a defensive genius...whaley did a lot of work bringing in playmakers on offense thinking rex could take care of the d...it didn't work out
- Michael Pachla

Problem was Pegula hired a coach with a different defensive scheme than the previous coach. You needed to give Rex time to get 3-4 players here. The defense was bound to regress when you switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and kept many of the players.

Terry wanted a big name, they brought one in and didn't give him nearly enough time to implement his scheme with the correct player personal.

Giving him time was never going to change the awful game management decisions he's made.

Bad challenges, punting when you need to win, having 10 men on the field, etc.

Personally, I wanted them to just promote Schwartz. If one more person told me "he was a failure of a head coach" but then turned around and supported Rex, I was going to puke.

maybe...but whether it's 3-4 or 4-3, way too much confusion on defense and that's on him and his brother

Bill Belichick didn't do well in first stint either.

Rex Ryan did get to two straight AFC Championships, with a mediocre at best quarterback as well. Schwartz never did anything near that.

Many coaches don't. IMO there isn't much difference between coaches in the NFL. There is two big things needed in the NFL for success, continuity and luck finding a QB.

Rex should've been handed his walking papers the moment he told Terry he was going to fire G-Ro after the defense got shredded by the Jets the night before.

This is a very interesting take, especially in light of the tone of this thread for the last 2 weeks.

The Bills Defense was 3rd in the NFL as a 4-3 when the "Defensive Genius" took over. The "Genius" decided he needed to implement a different system, even though he didn't have the appropriate personnel to implement it. Then he spent the next two years tearing the D apart and trying to make them play his way.

Disco has done exactly the same thing, in the view of many posters here. Bylsma has insisted that players play his system, instead of playing to their natural skills. poop, after crowning Mario Williams king for even coming here, and then watching him have an AMAZING year, we ran him out of town because his skills weren't suited to the 3-4 that Rex implemented.

If he's a (frank)ing GENIUS, why can't he just tweak the system that was 3rd in the league when he got here?

More importantly, from my perspective, why can't somebody tell this story to goddamn Bylsma so he will just let the Sabres play the way their skills say they should.

While a fair point about Ryan, this Sabres team never really had an identity when Bylsma took over. They weren't leading the lead in anything, or near the top of the league in anything.

Sears closing Blvd mall and Galleria mall locations in mid-April

The Boulevard will probably be closed in a year or two. When Whole Foods opens they will take half of their stores for the strip mall due to their contract.

Your question about Ryan was "why couldn't he just tweak the system that was 3rd in the league when he got here"? And then you essentially asked the same thing about Bylsma. My answer was that the Sabres had no system worth keeping. In fact, the former coach of this franchise, didn't really have a system at all.

Yes and they have contracts with Banana republic, Eddie Bauer and a handful of other stores that are in the Blvd. so they will all have to relocate to Northtown once Whole Foods opens.

Who fits this mold on the Sabres though?

Kane is playing his best hockey in years because someone finally realized he doesn't belong with top end talent. And no this isn't a criticism of him, he's just a great checking line winger. Does Bylsma get no credit for the good?

Like I said, you missed the point. In fact, by focusing on the system, you are making the same mistake that Rex and Disco are.

My question was "Why can't a genius realize that forcing players to adjust their skills to fit your system doesn't work as well as adjusting your system to your players skills?" and then I asked "Why can't somebody point out to Bylsma that Rex just got fired for making that mistake."

Yeah they knocked down the food court and turned that into Richards.
