Seems like 90% of our goals are either PP, or just off of work around the net

We have no transition game

- sbroads24

they're getting killed in the neutral zone

Like I said last Night. Carolina went full court press and we had no idea what to do.

Yeah. Just from the last couple games I would say the Sabres do a very poor job of getting the puck back from anything other than a missed shot, and aren't very effective a bringing it back up the ice under pressure.
- BINGO!

the first part is about battle, support and spacing, the latter is because teams are aggressive in the neutral zone which neutralizes their speed

A good transiton game comes from a good defense corps, which they don't have. I guess it's possible that Bylsma is forbidding them to move to puck up too quickly, but I just have a hard time believing it.

No transition game. No odd man rushes. No breakaways ever.

"Tim Murray has brought in Kulikov and Bogosian as top four additions to this team. They play together right now. I think we all know what these two players bring. They can transition the puck and can skate faster than average. They are prone to major lapses in the d-zone. They can hit too, but that’s not relevant to what we’re talking about. We are asking them to do exactly what they are bad at – low percentage, lightning fast decisions. Get the puck up to the evacuated wingers and do it fast and fit it in a tiny window. 99% of the time it doesn’t work and Carolina comes streaking right back in. These two, and McCabe, can skate very well. They don’t get activated in the offensive zone and rarely get involved in neutral zone play. We are using our defensemen for their weaknesses. Tim has to see this. He knows why he acquired these guys and he has to see that his coach doesn’t coach a style conducive to the players he brought in. I’m starting to think that this, combined with the way our team can’t start a game, has started Bylsma’s countdown."
- Der Kaiser

I've never thought of Kulikov as that kind of player. In fact, the scouting report on him has always been limited offensive ability. Bogosian on the other hand is supposed to be able to do that.

after only a year and a half...that's pretty quick...

came away from the game last night thinking they need new on-ice leadership...love Gionta, but he doesn't have the fire they need, imo...gorges time has come and gone...

I still think risto would make the best captain for this team

- Michael Pachla

I have an idea how to generate scoring chances.
Don't put Jack Eichel on the powerplay.
That will surely work.

Bylsma must go.

I think they just lack the personnel and structure in their own zone.

Canes have set plays to use the middle of the ice in their own zone when there's a puck battle along the boards.

Push it out the the C in front of the net, push it up to a winger, get going. It's simple and they do it very quickly.

It can be dangerous and if other teams pick up on it, they can exploit it, but it''s usually pretty effective.

Didn't see ANY of that from the Sabres... Couldn't tell you what their D is supposed to do with the puck when they're engaged in a battle in their own zone. It's like they have no plan at all at times.

I dont.
We have players that have speed. I could understand having games that it doesn't happeb. But it never does.
IMO it is the system he uses.

After last night I lost Bylsma

It's not just defense though.

We don't pressure guys at the point and force bad passes, and we don't have the speed to do it either.

Dudes,

I got something for you to look for tonight. Pay attention to how many passes, specifically the first couple out of the zone, are made with the person receiving the pass standing still. Good lord, get moving female doges!

Agreed. He needs to go if this team wants to move forward.

Fire both coaches in the same day, that would be stellar

I don't think he played poorly by any means, but I can't think of a big save he made tonight.

Just because he's facing a 2 on 1 doesn't mean he needs to get beat on both shots. Neither were cross ice passes to open nets, they were shots Lehner challenged and got beat. Still, he was the least of teams concerns.

- sbroads24

Isn't that what you want though, a goaltender who does not cost much who makes the saves he needs to make, and every so often makes a key save as well?

His numbers are fine, and the key is they should also mean a giant raise on a long term deal is not coming.

Bill Peters was pretty upset with the Hurricanes' game too.

No, it isn't, but if you don't have guys on the back end capable of moving the puck in transiton (the Sabres have one in Ristolainen, and would have a second in Bogosian if he could juse move his hockey IQ up about 25 points by some miracle), the rest is moot.

All you need is a guy that gives you a chance to win every game.

If he's only giving up 2 goals per night on 25+ shots, you're golden.

I assume it will involve Eichel being out in the worst position possible because he had a bad practice
