That trade as a whole is fine. I just wish Murray's view of what a good defender is was a little different.
- sbroads24

Is there a chance he only thought of Kulikov as the best option he could get without giving up more than he wanted to and that was his only parameter as far as Kulikov being a good defender?

I think there's a chance Murray looked it at as not needing to lose a guy for nothing, meaning Pysyk, when the new team comes in, and if things went badly, they could get an additional pick, maybe a 2nd, for Kulikov at the trade deadline.

There would be numerous injuries cropping up from fans as a result of celebrating if that happened.

I'd place a heavy, heavy wager he's not extended this summer.

There is 0 chance a dude with his past is given an extension a year before his deal is up.

3 weeks ago we couldn't trade him, now he's worth an early contract?

There's a chance, but there is also the Murray comment that he's liked Kulikov for years and liked him when he came out of the draft.

Kulikov isn't awful. He just isn't you know, good.

he never wanted to trade Kane

he had offers

the only way he is off this roster is if Pegula says Kane goes or your gone, to Murray

My only counter to that is what is Murray supposed to say?

He definitely can't say this is the best we could get, even if he believed it.

I know Murray is often seen as somebody that says anything without a care, but he's smarter than that.

Pegula wanted him out. I pretty much am certain on it.

Maybe a full year of behaving changes his mind and he stays. Which if that happens, great.

Agreed, and in theory, with the worst case scenario being the team out of playoff contention prior to the deadline, getting 2 second round picks for Pysyk and a 2nd isn't bad.

my source said murray was never going to trade Kane

same for 89's source, which is more connected

nucks gm probably "leaked" the non story after calling Murray, to try to get Kane for 40 cents on the dollar and win a trade

I don't know why but I have a feeling Murray already knows and believes that guys like Bogo, Kane, Ennis, and Moulson are not in the long term plans, even though he traded for two of those.

I know it seems like he is tied to 'his guys' as they are often referred to, but I think he understands when things are not working out with a player, even if that player is one he coveted before joining the team.
