You reading comprehension is lacking. I never said I wanted his dad to pull out either. - LittleRickyV2
Fair enough. Why did you question why his dad did not choose to pull out? And why are you so into his dad? |

Never said it was a bad idea to write about, simply that he let his emotions around the situation influence his writing a lot more than usual and- as evidenced by the fans in this blog that belong to neither team involved- that makes him look like a homer.
Being a fan and reacting to slights against your team and players happens, but that doesn't make it any less sensitive. He's taking a situation that can easily be looked at more rationally and approaching it with a whole lot of bias. Not completely unfounded bias but bias nonetheless. - MaximumBone
If we can have a slightly serious discussion about bias, I think it's dangerous for writers to pretend that they dont have one. First and foremost, it's a lie. Going to J School or being hired by a major newspaper/company doesnt absolve someone of all their past experiences and deepest most inner beliefs. To pretend that someone can be unbiased in sports writing is crazy talk.
The only reason we even entertain the idea that writers can and should be unbiased is because they've been pretending to do it for so long it would be rude to let them know we're onto them. It's like telling a kid there's no Santa.
So personally, I've never wanted to lie to anyone about my biases. Now, I also like to support most of my writing with evidence (like testimonial by the league's best player about what was admitted to him by another player, or fancy stats, or logic).
Emotion is also very important. It's pretty easy to be lifeless. I dont want to make every post or every part of a post about numbers and facts. Sports writing in general should convey the emotion of the game because that's what the fan is there to enjoy. I can describe the game using shot attempts but nobody is sitting there yelling "CORSI! DAMN RIGHTS, NUGE. YOU GET THAT BLOCKED SHOT!!!"
As far as being a Homer goes, more than half the entire blog was me ripping the Oilers for their effort. Gustavsson is a fish, Klefbom a broken man, and Nuge got his lunch money stolen from him by the bigger kid in the 5th grade. So a little perspective about the blog as a whole needs to be taken there.
That said, Brandon Manning is still a fake NHL player and not worthy of being in the same league as McDavid. |

This is true, I'm not a domi fanboy - Conquest
I really respected Tie for years. He never backed down and fought all of the heavies, Probert being his most famous multi-go partner. But turning down both McCarthy and Berube, then hitting Burt as he was held down, then hiding behind Kaberle, then talking poop when the ref had McCarthy pinned...it was all gone that night. |

But we wouldn't be having this conversation if it was a lesser player. And least not still anyway
I don't think he pouted. I think he was asked a question and he answered it truthfully
I guess we'll just have to choose to view his words in different ways because of personal bias
I never wanna see Connor fighting some low level plugs. Neither he nor the oilers have anything to gain from it - HB77
Any time you call a player out in public, using words like classless, it goes a bit beyond just answering a question. Chalk it up to youth or frustration etc but that's on Connor, not the media, not Manning, not my bias.
I agree, that he shouldn't be fighting, it would be idiotic, but Connor knows that as well I doubt he wants to hide behind Lucic or whomever.

The only issue I have is the "some of our guys" part. If McDavid doesn't want to waste his time fighting a 5/6 defenseman, that's fine. But if that's the case, then you shouldn't have to have someone else fight him, either. Just my take. Other than that, aside from me believing that what's said on the ice stays on the ice, I have no problem with his answer. - jmatchett383
Good post
I think we all know the unwritten rules and the hierarchy of the game. But agreed that expressly stating as such was probably in poor taste (the 'our guys fighting' comment .)
But yeah- overall, I didn't feel like he came across as a baby or a whiner or any of the nonsense he's been called. |

He told me to ask another question and you have no reason to think I'm into his dad unless part of your repressed sexuality has you fantasising about various scenarios that include two men together. |

I feel like I've been coming to HB for years I've just never read this Henderson guy, is he someone? - shekkie
Hendo is alright. My biggest bone to pick with him is definitely the emotional sensationalism in his writing (as seen on display today). He can be overly negative/dour about the team for weeks on end and he can be overly stubborn with certain theories/narratives that he tends to beat to death. Otherwise he is a decent blogger, interacts a bit with his readers, good sense of humor in general. Most importantly, he is an above average Hockeybuzz blogger because he can usually write coherent sentences. That's the most important standard.

Fair
As far as hiding, Connors always willing to engage physically and has been given a rough ride on a few nights. But never backs down an inch. But when the fists come out- he needs to defer |

Based on his having played 102 games in the NHL you are clearly wrong.
Just like the people saying McDavid should have dropped the gloves are wrong.

As I stated earlier, Thank you for making it a Corsi free blog. I usually do yell "Corsi" when I do read your blogs, but in a negative way, like when Kirk yelled "Khaaaaaaaaaan". |
