Gustavsson was flat out terrible last night. People are riding Klefbom for that last goal and while he badly misplayed it, his goalie forgot everything he had ever been taught. Klefbom had at least made it so Raffle could not go across the net with the puck. So then Gustavsson makes himself as small as possible leaving half the net open to get scored on. When the defense can't trust the goalie they try to do to much, which leads to more mistakes, leading to more fails by the goalie.

Not really a big deal. Clearly if Manning did make jokes about it, it is a pretty stupid thing to say considering he was involved in the play last year and the catalyst behind the injury. I understand McDavid's irritation and clearly it didn't bother him too much in the game.
Perhaps McDavid misheard what Manning said and Manning misremembers what he said.

I don't agree with blaming McLellan for choosing to start his best goalie against a direct competitor for a playoff spot rather than an out-of-conference team that had won 6 straight.

Why not blame Nuge for two horrible giveaways followed by completely blown coverages and getting absolutely demolished on the dot? Or Klefbom for being a hot mess on three separate goals? Or Gustavsson seemingly making an active effort to look as small as possible in net all night? I can agree that Chiarelli made a bad choice with Gus, but I can see validity in him trusting Brossoit to step in rather soon. Besides, it's not like Enroth (the only real alternative) has been better.

Clearly doesn't take much to get into Mcdavids head. Yes he had a goal and an assist, but he also turned it over with the goalie pulled in the final seconds. Probably saw manning taunting him from the bench and got all teary eyed and just lost sight of the puck.
