I'd assume Nylander would be one of the first things we would have to include. I think JT is an amazing player, but in the cap age...I'd rather save the money. The numbers would be tricky when trying to resign Jack and Samson if they both have big years. I don't want to lose one of them because they exceed expectations.

Might cost Nylander and Reinhart ++. If by some chance we could come way keeping Nylander and moving other pieces it's a win. This is all speculation of course.

We have the pieces to try and trade for Tavares but if that happens, the cupboard may be empty. It is worth it for him.

Well his uncle was a long time Bandit. Maybe he came to watch him play as a kid and has a soft spot for Buffalo . Still close to Toronto . But The Leafs are basically going to write him a blank check !

I agree with you on everything you posted, the Leafs will have something to say about it without a doubt and the Islanders can't be that stupid, they have one of the worst arena's in the league and it looks like the team it's self has issues. They can't be dumb enough to move him.

Anyone think JT would also have an interested of centering Okposo and Moulson again? For JT and a guarantee he signs long term like what we did in the ROR deal, I would pull the trigger on Reinhart, Nylander, and 1st and 2nd rounder this year.

Eichel, JT, ROR down the middle would make any wingers we add to this team snipers.

We don't get close to JT without giving him up. Eichel is a no and so is ROR most likely given what Murray gave up to get him. Nylander is unproven and draft picks are no guarantee. Risto leaves us with no defense and Kane gets us laughed at. Reinhart is the only viable piece that can start talks.

Reinhart is a #2 overall and still REAL young . Lot and Lots of (greater than some give him credit for) hockey left. JT is good and older . will cost a sh!t ton for a long time .

True. And, nothing against Reinhart but JT is only 27 and will be in his prime for at least another 6 years. JT is an absolute star in this league and also doesn't get the credit he deserves given how poorly the Islanders are run. I think if we can get him for Reinhart+ we have to do it.

I understand . And it sucks when it actually does happen from our point of view.

Your buried contracts and buyouts are a thing for other teams to learn from. Maybe it won't happen anymore going forward. Maybe it will.

They're moving again. Either back to Nassau after the renovations, or to a new arena in Brooklyn. They hate Barclays. Why an arena isn't built with more than one sport in mind today is just dumb.

Here is the big issue trading for JT.

Okposo, ROR, JT, Risto and soon to be Eichel will all be loaded up on expensive contracts.

JT's new contract would be around $9 million per easily.

Then throw in losing Reinhart and Nylander both of whom combined would be making around $5-6million with Nylander being on his ELC for 3 seasons when he makes it to the NHL (thank you slide rule)

Then throw in a 1st round draft pick and a 2nd as what was suggested you don't pick until the 3rd round.

We already know the cupboard is pretty bare at the moment, and with the lack of depth this team has up front in the bottom 6 and in the back on the bottom 4 that is just something that could completely handcuff them to being able to get over that hump (I am talking Cup winning)

Almost every single Cup winner has good production from players on their ELC's or on the cheap.

The Sabres won't have any ammo to get said players in trades, and won't have any ammo to draft said players.

This isn't a UFA signing where it only costs salary space, this would cost salary space a very good young player, at least one very good prospect and several draft choices.

I would pass on trading for JT not because he isn't worth it, but because it would cripple the Sabres long term. They would always be that very good team that can't win it all. Call them the new Washington Capitals...

Salary cap would be tight however it is workable.

Which is why the cheap ELC players are that much more important.

Kane, Moulson and Ennis would all have to be gone for sure
