Giroux line has carried the team in the absence of Coots/Read...breaking them up would probably solve a lot of the issues we see on other lines, but they are playing way too well right now to do so, IMHO

Cant say enough about what an active and offensively skilled blue line does for ES point production

Streit's goal was right as a PP ended.

Schenn was very meh...I have been against that second line from the beginning, really.

Provy had, based on his recent string of games, a subpar night I felt. Still would marry him tomorrow.

Everyone else did a pretty bang up job of getting it done.

Mason...didn't look as engaged as usual on some plays, but man he had some terrible luck. That last goal was completely ridiculous

That was really an observation on the year, not really last night. Just felt like saying it.

For all the years of pretending like the forwards sucked because no one could score, I think this year is proof that when they aren't playing 3 v 5 (hyperbole) they can score

No way Manning, who plays 16-18 minutes a game as part of a 6-man unit, should fight some fourth-liner who plays 6-8 minutes so, what, McDavid or Draisaitl or Eberle can double-shift against the five defensemen who are left?

I've got nothing for or against McDavid. But he was pretty much an ass all night, whined after the game, then admitted that someone else was going to need to eat some punches for him because he wasn't going to do it himself

If you're going to be the guy who is all of those I said in the last paragraph, that's not a good look

His beef with Manning and the obvious (not hard to read lips) trash talking throughout the game made the tears taste even sweeter

He is still really, really good

Good player, clearly. But I've watched a long time and I can't remember -- not saying it's never happened -- but can't remember a time when a 19-year-old said that somebody else was going to eat punches for him

Not the best look, to me. Keep quiet or handle it yourself

Kid definitely suffers from silverspoonitis.

Still I love his game and yes he can throw them if needed only he has to make sure not to punch the glass.

But I would rather have Leon more than anyone from Edmonton's roster.

I think it's overstating it to say that Manning got in McDavid's head. Despite McDavid engaging Manning during the game, McDavid was a very dangerous player, all game long, and was very effective. McDavid was very calm and subdued in the post game interview, and he didn't bring up the subject in a rant, he was asked about it by the press.

McDavid extended the invite in period one and Manning said nope. The Flyers needed to stay on the ice last night and knew it. Manning is our #3 D man right now and he knows he needs to stay out there against deep teams. It's all about time place and score. 2 goals as we have showed time and time again isn't death for this team. 3 goal lead and you can start thinking about settling other scores.

Yes it would take McDavid off for 5 minutes but you still got the rest of Edmonton's kids to deal with.

- dragonoffrost

How do you know that McDavid asked Manning to fight? I find it extremely hard to believe that Manning would back off of that challenge.

I read somewhere that he could throw 'em, but to me, that's kinda the issue. If you hate Manning that much -- and you clearly do, based on how you were last night -- then get in there and handle it yourself

Yeah, you're a superstar and you are valuable. But Manning wasn't giving him a rough ride every single shift, taking liberties, to where an enforcer would be something everybody could see coming.

You came in pissed off from a game a year ago because of something that was an accident, but you've decided that you're pissed. I was pretty surprised that the dude was acting like that all night.

If you're that bent out of shape, handle it yourself

If the timing and score were right, I'd be fine with Manning taking a fight like that.

I didn't think last night was good timing at all, so I'm happy Manning walked away from that nonsense.

I think McDavid is gonna look back on this incident one day and cringe about how he acted.

If I understood what McDavid said in the post game interview, what started it all was Manning chirping McDavid about the hit last year, in the game. I could be wrong, but that's what I understood happened.

He may have not wanted the media back lash of best case scenario giving McDavid a beat down. He's also recently back from a concussion suffered with in the last 2 weeks.

With that being said, I still do find it somewhat surprising. However, Those are 2 legitimate reasons.

It's not like Manning is an enforcer picking on a star player. All Manning would have to say is, he challenged me to a fight.

I have a hunch this is along the lines of what could've been said when McDavid challenged manning to a fight.

Manning: "I don't want to hurt you again"

McDavid and Oilers nation: "HE DID IT ON PURPOSE!"

Maybe, not that it didn't happen, but I haven't seen any information that McDavid challenged Manning to a fight. At one point, McDavid came off the bench, and grabbed Manning in between play, so it could've happened then.

Considering a clearly accidental hit got him death threats last year, I fear pounding McDavid into submission may not be that easily explained.

I think so -- you lost a game in regulation in which you scored five goals. You haven't made the playoffs in a decade. You're the captain of the team. Could be there's other stuff to talk about and think about than yourself and a defenseman on the other team who, while having a pretty solid season, is really a 16-18 minute defender

The challenge went down right before the end of the first in the corner over where the Zambonis come out. McDavid hacked Manning pretty well and Manning shook his head in a no manner. I said to someone with a McDavid Jersey during that during that intermission that I liked the kid's spunk for going at Manning. If Manning goaded him before that so be it but still McDavid definitely wasn't afraid at that time if he had to go. Probably during that intermission McDavid sicked the goon squad on ManDog.

There is no way Manning would have turned that down. He wouldn't be doing his job if he didnt take Mcdavid off the ice for 5 mins. Its ridiculous to think Manning would've turned it down

May not of even been a formal challenge, but the chirp(s) may have been along the lines of him not wanting to hurt McDavid like he did last year.

No checking line and still a poor D group. Edmonton will have a bunch of wild 5-4, 6-5 games this season.
