Gordon: "We don't track shot attempts including ones that are blocked or missed net but those were some of our best chances."

I despise Scott Gordon for two dozen reasons. That's he is a backwards, regressive, not bright coach is right at the top. I saw the game tonight though, and I think they won the possession battle lol.

I haven't watched any of their games, so I can't comment. I do love your consistent hate for him though.

His handling of Sanheim is driving me bonkers. He's being used as their shutdown d with Morin at ES and on the PK, with almost no PP time or offensive usage, prodigious talent as he is, or anything really to work with.

Ok, he's working on his defense: but then he benches him late with a lead like tonight to play the defensively suspect veterans. It just doesn't make sense to me. Nothing about that team makes sense to me.

I will say, he's been even better than anticipated defensively. But the less time they spend down there, the better in my mind. Get your feet wet, get the pro pace down, and get the (frank) out of Dodge as long as they have Gordon and Riley Cote leading the charge down there.

I do get the sense that there is a lot more pressure on Gordon to get this team into the playoffs

Just read that clown Henderson and his "blog". He claims that his analysis is accurate. Yeah about as accurate as the DNC pre election polls. McDavid is a crybaby.

Their talent is through the roof. If anything, he'll hold them back. But making the playoffs is not the goal for this team...that'd be a disaster if they missed. They're built to go deep. That's the real barometer.

But Gordon, besides being an antiquated anti-tactician IMHO, is coaching to get back into the NHL. It's so obvious. There's almost no development going on with the young guys. He creams himself at the idea of playing career AHL veterans. No joke, they actually double shift Brennan and O'Neill most of the time on the PP. Even at ES they'll double shift them for no reason. I've seen them even given a handful of 4+ minute shifts already this season. NAK is basically used as a plugger 4th liner. He was actually using an ECHL call-up as a top 4 d man with both PP and PK at one point over some of the young guys.

This is very disturbing. I wonder if some of these guys agreed to come to the Phantoms knowing they'd be getting top minutes.

I would be curious to hear from Hexy on the matter.

I've been before. My buddy lives 5 blocks from the PPL center anyway. Just wasn't in the cards. At least I can sleep well tonight knowing they don't use those flawed advanced stats

They absolutely came here on high paying AHL contracts to get prime minutes and wrack up the points, in spite of playing like crap. They're all AHL Mark Streits haha. I remember a stat saying Sanheim has been on the ice, in the toughest minutes, for like 6-7 goals against at ES. The veterans almost 3x as much.

Let me be clear: it's not like Hakstol, where I trust his strategic mind and his questionable personnel decisions usually get solved. I just think Gordon is an idiot. Full stop. I would say Hextall sees them winning and is fine with it. He did pick Gordon himself too. He seems very hands off to me and as long as the team is winning trusts his process. I hated the hire because it was pure mediocre retread written all over it. I was hoping for some younger, bolder mind maybe from a juniors league. There was a rumor we interviewed the Erie Otters coach. Best hope is that Gordon does well and moves on to an NHL job....probably on the Flyers haha.

Hextall's future and legacy as a GM, depends on a lot of those players in the AHL developing and becoming quality NHL players. If he thought they weren't being handled properly, he'd step in and do something about it. Why wouldn't he, unless he was willing to put winning at the AHL level ahead of his philosophy of how to develop players and run the Flyers. Is there any legitimate sources covering the team, that echo your complaints?
