Or - given that Montreal has the best record in hockey and would need to make the trade because they're in "win now" mode - they might be willing to take something less painful to us to get a center that can take Desharnais or Galchenyk's place NOW, and discount the value of an AHL player (no matter how nice) who can't play that position and isn't contributing NOW.

I'm not saying it's a no-brainer or that it would even work. But we've been looking for that LHD1 for a long time, and there's lots of reasons to think Sergachev is NHL ready despite where MTL has him.

Sergachev was straight up awful (eye test) in his time up in the nhl. He may not be the best d-man in that draft and either way he's years away from that. Hard pass

Ive done a 180 on the D acquisition. I was big on the get a lefty for risto. not that mccabe is perfect but i think that could work long term. They still need another "top pair quality" guy but adding a 2nd righty could give you 2 very good pairs that you could rotate in the future.
