Ferland does deserve a raise, 4yr 2.75mil? He's producing at a 3 line rate. But he does bring the extra intangibles, the kid is tough.

I would be happy with that ...he had been pretty good this year actually .. I thought he was pretty terrible most of last year but this year he is different ...i think they tried to get him to be a top 6 guy last year and he just isn't that guy ...in his role this year

Probably not enough of UFA yrs. I believe he is a UFA after next yr.
- Kaynine

I think he is Ufa this year isn't he ?

I was thinking he is 28 and at his peak so he can sign his biggest contract then

Yeah u want to capitalize on his strengths. Playing top 6 might have put too much pressure on him. Although, I am a firm believer in the sophomore jinx. Most players seem to struggle in their second yrs.

Evenin'

I'd say that Ferland is probably the Flames version of Martin - Similar shot generation/suppression stats, plays with the same edge, will probably get a few more points though. I think that you can probably get him for less (whether salary/term), but he's definitely a good guy to have around

I hear you, there definitely are some subjects that appear ad nauseam (Kadri hit, tank versus re-tool, replacing the twins, Vantel & Don, coaching etc)

Whining about hypothetical contracts is relatively rare occurrence, assuming Sbisa isn't mentioned

- Whiskey-Tango

Sbisa is earning his contract this year....

I think early success can be an issue too ...sometimes things come easier than they should and it evens out second year

Yeah for sure, from what I've seen Ferland definitely has a bit more to offer on the scoresheet. A nice guy to have on the lower lines though

Lol, not intentionally

I'm one of those stats nerds and when I looked up Ferland, one thing that stood out was how similar he was to MM - low shot generation, but very high shot suppression. Plus he plays the same kind of heavy game.

Yeah I get the AB thing, but he just sounded like someone wanting his 15min of fame. He took advantage of the game on Sat and the hype. Whats sad is he he's paid for his opinion.
