seemed like a backhanded compliment...

no biggie...I get everything you're saying but fact is, normally the sabres are on the wrong end of a game like this...that's why I think they're beginning to mature

- Michael Pachla

Not at all actually i meant it. sabres teams of past would have been gifted opportunities to win and completely botched it. It's a really good sign.

how many times have you heard, "it's not how you start, but how you finish?"

allow yourself some joy...even if there's a possibility it may be fleeting

Here's an interesting math game.

We have played 26 games (with the roster being what it was).
We have earned 26 points.

In the last nine, we have earned 12 points in 9 games.
That's 1.33 points per game.
There were no bottom feeders in those 9 games. It's not crazy to think our record would be better against lesser teams than the very sturdy opponents we played in the last nine.

If we keep up the 1.33 ppg pace over the rest of the 56 games of the season, we could earn 74 more points, and finish the season with

100 points.

- Der Kaiser

Not to mention its not unrealistic to think they get better play from the defense once we get some guys back....

If anyone said we would have 26 points at this point of the season using 9 different d-men and missing jack for 21 games we would all be happy with that.

I know I am.

11 D men, actually. Once we get Kulikov back, the excuses for losing are done. Yeah, no Ennis or bogo but every team has injuries. I'm excited to see what they can do, even if Jack isn't 100%. I believe that bye week thing is mid January so that should help

I went to last night's game and I said to my friend Connor McDavid, when he starts skating from his own end is like watching a bit of Gil Perreault reincarnated.
,
I went to the Pittsburgh game and last nights game and McDavid was much more noticeable, dynamic, exciting than Crosby. Does that make him a better player now? No, but he is a fun to watch and when he matures, learns the nuances to play a complete game, watch out.

He's right at that sweet spot in his career where if he's ever going to be a starter now the time to prove that. Murray would be smart to resign him at around the deadline if he keep up this sort of play. Having Lehner / Nilsson is a nice team to have, we could have done a lot worse. And, everyone in the pipe needs a lot more time.

Ullmark is ready to play in the nhl right now, probably as a starter IMO

I've told this story time and time again. He was the nicest guy I ever met when I reffed the Sabres training camps. He always made sure to joke with us and make sure the equipment guys got us anything we needed and made sure the other players weren't a$$holes to us.

He seemed like he still needed some refining, possibly because of still recovering from the hip surgery. I know he's been playing well in the AHL, but I don't see him benefiting at all from being a backup here. I like Lehner, but man, lucking out on finding Nilsson with Ullmark and Petersen in the wings, it's a nice problem to have but wish we just made the pick at #21 in 2015.

"Easy" to win when your team scores more than 3 goals (the number he's allowed in each of his last 3 games (all wins)

Last 7 games, Nilsson has allowed 1 less goal than Lehner, yet has 3 more wins over that span. Pretty sure the goaltending isn't why he's earning wins and Lehner isn't.

Its all of Lehner's injuries. That's why he's a loser.
