Though I can understand your reluctance to trade any of Nylander, JVR, or Kadri, I don't think we are going to get the defensive help we need without losing one of them.
Barring a major drafting oversight, I doubt there are any legit top 2 defenders available in the draft this year besides Lillegren. Unless the wheels fall off, or a lottery draft miracle occurs, we're not getting him.
I agree that we are in no rush, and shouldn't be looking to make a HallLarson type trade, but eventually we are going to need to move something of value if we want to add another top 3 defender. If we can somehow get a defender better than any we currently have back, I'd have no trouble trading anybody on the team not named Mathews, Marner or Riley.

So what's the verdict on the Hall hit last night?

I confess I only saw it in a bar last night after midnight, but it looked pretty clean to me.

An OTL isn't a tie like in the old standings, it's still a loss. 7 teams in the eastern conference are below .500. Not sure why people choose to perceive an OTL as a tie. It stands for OVER TIME LOSS. The key word being loss.

Your perceiving the standings exactly the way the NHL wants you to. Falsely. Is there any other reputable professional sport that has some games awarding more points than others? The NHL's points system is a joke & designed to create the effect as you perceive it & give a false hope your team is still in the playoff hunt.

Either make all games worth 3 points or bring back ties. If still tied after OT drop the shootout & take the tie or award 3 points for a regulation win not this aberration. I have seen numerous people run the standings based on 3 for a regulation win. It alters the standings nominally. Try running it with tie's. Not easy to do as you need to go back & review ever game to see who won a game after an OT win getting 2 points as opposed to 1.

That said the NHL is never bringing back ties but this ridiculous points system needs to change.

you are wrong, in the old days a Tie would have been a tie, It,s the winner overtime shoot out point that's a farce.
