if they wanna take a more patient approach, wait for Shatty in the offseason as I really dont think he will sign an ext with anyone he gets dealt to this year (if it even happens)
Then go use that 2nd from the brassard trade, maybe another pick and a guy like Fast to land a 2nd or 3rd pair guy who will force AV's hand more than the current 7D on the team have. Or, and I know people say no one is ready, call someone up and see what they got. - mrn22
I will only say this. If you are going to make that type of trade -- a second or third pair guy -- that guy has to be better than either Holden or Klein. If not, you are just pissing in the wind (although it does give you depth). And, of course, that still doesn't do anything about Girardi being on the first pair, as many people have complained about.
In short, in order for Girardi not to be on the first pair, you are talking about a pretty big trade for a righty defensemen. If that doesn't happen, the coach just has to go with the best players he has.

Puempel (concussion) went on IR to make room for Jensen. - jimbro83
You think Nelson faces any discipline? I thought that could have been called a major. It wouldn't have mattered, just Halak making 4 or 5 more saves on that PP.

Better than Klein shouldnt be hard
and when you bring in that guy he should instantly be making AV think about moving girardi down to 2nd pair

Not at all, it was a reactionary play. His in game penalty was enough.
Jimbo, I'm trying to quote u but it's not working. Stop. There is no defending AV right now. It's not just last night with 10 fowards. It's the last 15 games, which prior to we were leading the league in goals and it wasn't even close that he decided to shuffle the lines. We're 5 goals a night not enough? Did he want 6? I don't get it. And if he doesn't realize his mistake he shouldn't be the coach. I'm not a huge AV fan and his soft style of play but it was working for the first 15-20 games. But the flaws on our team and with AV are showing. Do injuries hurt? Sure. But it's not an excuse to him not realizing which lines work.
Nash Stepan Vesey
Miller Hayes Graber
Kreider Pirri Zucc -this line bc buch and zib are hurt
Even when buch and Kreider were back he didn't put them back when Zib when they were the best line. It's mind boggling

Ahhh...someone's on the same page as I am.
I get injuries did happen. But what's not broken shouldn't be tried to be fixed.
Yes, one top line was two-thirds broken (pun intended)...so fix that line and that line only. Don't botch up the other three in order to do so. Plug the holes with your daily healthy scratches and hope for the best. Rangers had FOUR lines going. Now they have nothing

By way of context, however, going into the year, most of the so called pundits were saying that the Rangers window had closed. Many of the same so called pundits were picking the Rangers to miss the playoffs. Now, of course, it could still be the case that they could miss the playoffs, but as it stands right now, they have the fourth most points in the league.
So, what I am saying is that relative to the expectations of most, the Rangers are over-performing. And, they are over-performing with average (or even subpar) goalkeeping.
They have had a couple of key injuries as you point out. There is also a legitimate argument to be made regarding whether the line combinations make sense. But, I also think we have to stop overreacting to the normal ebbs and flows of a season, especially when the Rangers are battling injuries.
They started out on fire. Now, they are going through a bit of a downturn where they are treading around .500 or so. I just think we should let it play out a little.

i think their start has more to do with Gortons work than AVs

Then AV really can't win, can he? If the Rangers are winning, it's Gorton. If the Rangers are losing, it's AV.
We can all set up a narrative to blame or give credit to whoever we want, but those narratives have to at least allow the coach, GM, players, etc. the ability to be successful. It's not fair if we set up a performance metrix that ensures that someone is horsepoop no matter what the results.

Well I do blame Gorton for not addressing the blueline further than acquiring Holden
I also dont hate AV and wouldnt even think about firing him. but people have a point when they say he mixing and mashes the lines too much
