My Take on last nights game:

Intensity - The Islanders brought it, the Rangers didn't, yes Jan, they took the hits and kept coming but at some point punch back for God's sake! I didn't see snarl in ANYONE'S game last night, they got beat in just about every physical battle. How do you play a rival and come out and play such a passive game. Someone needed to step up as a later and make a big hit or a big play or get into a scrum.. something, anything. NOBODY did, and they got owned for it

Goaltending - Kudos to Halak, he was UNREAL especially in the first. Hank on the other hand. That first goal was atrocious. a shot form just below the dots ON the boards and Mayfield had 3 feet of room to score, which means Hank either lost his post or was just not into the game. The second goal was terrible bounce, but why with only one option did he not move out a bit to cut down the angle? that would've taken the bounce out of play. The poke check on the third goal was a joke, there was no need to try that, again leading me to believe his head was not in the game and something else is going on. It completely ruined the little momentum they may have had after Vesey's goal. The Tavares goal, I dont care that it was Tavares, go back and watch the reply again, he only has short side to shoot and hank is off the post by a good two feet there as well.

Defense - So bad its not worth writing about, they got beat all game long by a much hungrier group of Islander forwards

Forwards - Injuries suck but it is part of the game. I fully expect guys like Step, Zucc, Kreider, Hayes and Miller to step up when Nash goes down and I didn't see ANYONE do it. Nobody rallied the troops. Zucc had a great first period but that was it.

Hopefully this is the wakeup call the entire team needed. You just cant show up and expect to win or think you ca just turn it on and off (see last years playoffs) no matter how good you think you are. Teams are hungry and are going to give you their best every night, specially if you are near the top of the league or a rival.

If AV continues to play Girardi in top minutes on the top pair then he has to go. Girardi played best in the beginning on the second or third pairing.

Henrik needs a few games off to clear his head. He has not been the himself all year and this is beyond the early season slump. Don't think he's "done" but he needs time off.

As for last night's game, NYR not used to playing on that shatty ice in Brooklyn that the Isles play on more. They are used to it where NYR may not be as ready for the bad bounces.

All that being said this team has too many flaws to go all the way. Changes are needed. Hope Gorton has something up his sleeve.

the usual suggestion as to who should play with McDonagh on the top pairing is Skjei, and he was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL last night

That was a pretty epic long post there by Horova, didn't know he could punctuate so well.

I'm not trying to turn this into a pissing match, but for the record: The Garden ice isn't exactly top quality ice in and of itself, due to all the turnover there. It may not be as bad as the Barclay's but I hardly see that as a viable excuse for affecting the outcome of the game in some capacity.

Still a great movie, could watch that from any point always. Best part is the creeper guy in the subways who teaches Swayze how to use his "ghost powers".

Agreed. Not making it all about the ice. NYR plain sucked but its a little factor.

Garden ice is usually bad too.

In fairness, Girardi is the best right defensemen on the team. Who else would play in that spot? Klein? Holden? Moving Skjei out of position?

I think AV is going with what he has. And, as much as it is not ideal to have Girardi on the top pair anymore, there really doesn't seem to be a better option to me.

Simple fact was Halak won it on the Rangers 4 min PP. Rangers could have had 2 goals. He was spectacular. And Hank sucked on 2 of the goals. He was 3' off the post playing the shooter on that side of the ice. I don't think I have ever seen such bad positioning from him. Plus the assist to Ladd didn't help.

also, blaming Girardi for every loss is getting ridiculous, to put it mildly

The Tavares shot was world class but it looked like Hank should have had that, seemed the shot was right where his glove hand was & he missed it.
