Taylor Hall knocked out Philip Larsen last night. 100% totally clean hit
Edit: This, of course, leads to a line brawl where people are jumping over (and bumping into) the unconscious player with their skates and no medical attention can be delivered until the players have separated. - jmatchett383
Yes, it was a clean hit with an unfortunate outcome.
You call that a line brawl?
So, basically, unless you're a Cup cotender, you should just lose every game to improve your draft spot? I never got this mentality. - jmatchett383
Same. For immediate improvement (iow, a true impact player who can join the lineup immediately and contribute significantly) the draft is so overrated.
This was horrible, Larsen is literally dead on the ice and guy's skates are kicking him in the head. Really great for a guy who needs a stretcher to get off the ice. - Tomfan365
In the immediate seconds following the check they had no idea how serious it was.
I see a lot of rumors, not just EK, but other places of the Oilers wanting to improve defense since they are where they are in the standings. Would Del Zotto make sense for them? What/Who would you want back?

Caligula or maybe Maroon is maybe what you'd be looking at.
When Granlund is standing over him and people are still going by bumping him it's known it's pretty bad. Of course Granlund bumps him too... - dragonoffrost
The eyes in the back of their heads are covered by their helmets so they couldn't see that. Optically it looks bad, and fortunately nobody added to his injuries, but they weren't doing it maliciously so I'm not as appalled by it as others here.

Not necessarily a 5v5 or 6v6 all-out war, but a fight with a bunch of player from both teams scrumming.

Granted. But when you see a player not moving on the ice, probably not a good idea to rush in his general direction with sharp skates on the ice. Still, had the Canucks not overreacted to a clean hit and had the Devils not joined it, not an issue.
I wouldn't 2 years at around this same money at most - Just5
Okay. I was just curious at the "2 or 3+" usage. It's either 2+ or 3+. Still, if he wants around $5M or so for 3 years, you're likely not going to get a better deal in the UFA market for a #3/#4 guy unless you're able to get a steal...like MDZ.

I'm not appalled to it, but it seems that, so often in the NHL, immediate retribution takes precedent over the safety of the player.
I don't recall seeing something like that very often.
But I do agree that retribution for a good, solid, clean hit is ridiculous. - Scoob
Look at the majority of clean (yet hard) hits. The response of the team with the injured player is to make a bee line for the offending player, with no regard for their injured teammate.

Yea it's not a bad deal. It's just trying to figure out if the Flyers need to allocate that kind of money to a 3/4 guy when theres so much in the pipeline. I get we can always trade him but it becomes more difficult to trade any player on a UFA deal with big money/term.
If Amac keeps up this level of play all year you have to wonder if Vegas considers him. He may actually be more attractive to them with his contract/cap hit in order to reach the floor. I don't know how it would shake out but they may have to opt for some higher salary players. Obviously if they take Amac I resign MDZ in a heartbeat

We all way to see a top-6/7 that features Ghost, Provorov, Morin, Sanheim, Hagg, and Myers. In all likelihood, at least 2 of them won't pan out, and 1-2 more won't be more than 4/5/6 defenders. Which is fine. But you're going to need some veteran guys who can pull top-4 minutes. Right now, Gudas and MDZ would be those guys, and Manning is getting closer. Yes, AMac makes the situation murky, but I think you can trade him if you retain some salary. I agree that more than 3 years is sketchy, but I think 3 years at around $5M is something that you have to really consider.
Hack will really need to be a circus act as he better juggle the lines a bit because, counting on PP and G line with no other threats line 2-3-4 may block our extra point tomorrow night.
Would really like some weird experiment like Luby on top line or TK moving to 2 center Schenn LW-Train RW.
