I would like to take this time to restate that Mike Knuble has a record that is listed in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

And that the Gretzky 802 goal display is amazing.

YuenglingJagrizing:

Take away all of Gretzky's goals and he's still the all-time NHL points leader.

That is franking ridiculous.

That is ridiculous. Someone may one day break his goal totals, but no one will ever touch his points records.

lol...you'd think someone in that organization and/or the NHL would be smart enough to research this kind of thing

It was more about removing those goals to fit a narrative.
- MJL

I mean, technically he didnt "shoot" them in. They were shot off of him and went in.

They just want the tied for 5th on the team goal scorer benched because he doesn't do enough in the role he does.

Yes, that is how they went in. Technically, they still count as a successful shot and a goal. Same as a top shelf wrister. I don't think that kind of goal from a grinder 4th liner , or any player for that matter, should be discounted in any way.

If a puck goes off an opposing player's skate and Mason saves it, does it count as a save? Or should his sv% be adjusted?

They should stop the game, rewind the clock back, and make an announcement that the entire play sequence will be stricken from the game record.

Either way you look at it, he's not going to maintain a 20% shooting percentage.

Excluding those goals is just an attempt to explain the noise in his shooting percentage this year.

Great point.

Will someone please remove all deflected and tipped (whether off stick, skate, or body) goals from all Flyers scorers. We need to see the true shooting percentages for all of them if we're going to properly argue about this stuff.

It's not noise, it is his actual shooting percentage. Those goals should not be excluded.

What narrative was that exactly? I was making the point that he is 2 shots away from his shooting percentage being in line with what it was his first year as a Flyer. In fact, taking his empty netter out as well puts him at his career average shooting percentage.

To make you feel better, if he scores a hat trick tonight with each shot of his resulting in a goal going off of his skates, his shooting percentage will be 28%. Is that okay, or am I fitting a narrative?

The entire point of the analysis was to look at his 5 goals and put a reasonable amount of thought into whether or not it was sustainable.
