Except, we all know the Streit/Provorov pair was a bad one and Hakstol was slow to make that adjustment. It has to be made and a month a half later it was made. To your first response, Lyubimov has looked like the same player in every game. I'm not sure what kind of a difference maker Vandevelde is nightly or the impact or Bellemare 4v4 or 3v3. He hasn't scored his first goal of the season yet.

With the Flyers lineup, and roster, right now there is no perfect solution.

bit of a technicality there...but I get what you're saying, to a degree
- YuenglingJagr

I get holding back from using Konecny and Provorov in OT for the first month. Sean Couturier goes down, so it's obvious that Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds are playing in an open ice, even strength situation but Bellemare is playing ahead of Schenn, Read (prior to injury). I just think it's a goofy strategy. Yes I get Bellemare is responsible defensively but Bellemare has yet to be a difference maker in these situations.

Happy with what? His shooting percentage? I think he sucks and he isn't making up for how bad he sucks unless he starts shooting 60%.

He is a career 8.5%, and if you actually take away the two goals his skates scored he is at 12% this season. I really am not saying I am happy/unhappy with his shooting percentage, just pointing out that it is most likely coming down.

A puck going off a player's skate for a goal, is a product of a player hustling and getting to the net.

Good to know. Hopefully it's now understood that those goals shouldn't just be discounted as being a lesser play than any other goal scored, because of how it went in.

Amazing. No matter how bad they are at times, they avoid being scratched. VDV has played decently of late. Streit has pretty much been bad all year.
- PLindbergh31

Agree. Streit is a veteran and an assistant captain and I'm sure he's a leadership presence/voice in the locker room but he's just cooked out there. Almost no mobility. His work along the boards and in the corners is cringe-worthy at best and his offensive numbers aren't counter-balancing his lack of defensive prowess IMO. He's basically a traffic cone out there with some slightly better-than-average stick-checking ability. I really don't see Streit being traded at the deadline - I'd be amazed if he's moved at all. I don't really see teams lining up to take on his skill/age/salary.

I disagree. Streit hasn't sat and he should. If the roster is healthy, there should be no playing favorites with this bottom six at forward. It's a poor bottom six. In fact I'm looking ahead to the summer because none of our UFAs should be resigned except Mason. I think Del Zotto should be considered depending on money and term but I'm looking forward to Streit, Schultz, Vandevelde, Neuvirth and Bellemare being off the books.

I remember that game too. It was the only time in NHL history that the Habs needed to play in Capital jersey's.

Relax, pal...You can act like he's going to routinely score goals off his skates all you want. I was simply pointing out that if you removed those two goals from the equation he is shooting 12% like he did the first year here. That is all.

If you are speaking of Vandevelde, his last goal was an empty netter. I believe two dumb luck off the skate goals.

You can disagree if you want, but the point is no matter what lineup changes are made, or who plays, right now there will always be a spot, a line, or a defense pairing where there is a perceived weakness. How can you say there is a poor bottom six, and then criticize the coach for the decisions he makes, with what he has to work with?

I haven't stated or implied anything close to stating that he's going to routinely do anything. I've simply stating that a player deserves credit for going hard to the net, and getting there at the right time, to be able to get some puck luck, and have a puck go in off his skate. That's basic hockey. It's a good goal, and counts the same as a top shelf wrister. A player should be praised and credited for that play, rather than have it dismissed when looking at a players play, and production. There's a common saying in the sport, dirty but good.

And if you remove the one's that went in off his stick he is shooting 0%

I used the pair of Streit and Provorov as an example of how slow Hakstol is to make adjustments because it did take him along time to realize the pair wasn't working.

Now who we are stuck with isn't Hakstol's issue. It's how he uses them. Playing Bellemare ahead of Schenn, Read and Raffl in a 4v4/3v3 situation isn't good. Replacing Couturier with Cousins on the PP isn't good. Sitting certain players and allowing certain undeserved players like Vandevelde and Streit to play isn't good. This is factual. Like, Raffl hasn't seen any PP time and the second unit hasn't gotten any better with what little adjustments made so far.

It's not like he's benching Bobby Clarke to keep CV in the lineup.

Yes...but would he, given the chance?
