Larsen laying on the ice and 1st a stick that gets dropped/thrown lands on his face and then a kick to the head for good measure, I don't mean to laugh but...

Seems like a lot of people are pissed about the hit. HOW!?! Hall basically tucked his (frank)ing hands into his pants and hit him. That's as clean as they come and should serve as a reminder that hitting is still in the game and suicide passes are still a (frank)ing bad idea.

Problem is it was a direct hit to the head, even if it was all shoulder, they just arent allowed to target the head.
Smells like a suspension.

Definitely an unfortunate outcome. The two things that really piss me off about the whole thing is that (a) everybody joins in a scrum OVER Larson as he lying prone and unconscious on the ice - note how Markstrom uses his body to shield between the bulk of the scrum and Larson - that he doesn't get stepped on or cut by a skate is a (frank)ing miracle; (b) the piece of poop in the white jersey who is trying to take photos/video of Larson as he's out cold - good job again by Markstrom blocking off the classless twat, and then seemingly having words with him too.

This is sarcasm right?

Halls only two other options would have been:

A) Stop, bow and wave Larsen through with a "Good day, sir!"

or

B) Drop to his (frank)ing knees to find room under his chin because Larsens head was so low.

This on Larsen. It sucks. No one wants to see any player get hurt (well except maybe a select few we do) but it's a hard hit with an unfortunate outcome. That's it.

Edit: I realized you might just be saying the league "could" look at it because of the outcome.

Nope, not sarcasm.
He made zero attempt to avoid the head, and unfortunately, that's the way the NHL thinks these days.

Ya it seemed a few players were trying to get the scrum stopped so he didnt get injured more...good on them.

The rule book disagrees. There isn't really a grey area to this hit like a lot we have seen in recent years. It boils down to this hit happening or you take hitting out of the game.

Rule 48 – Illegal Check to the Head
48.1 Illegal Check to the Head – A hit resulting in contact with an opponent’s head where the head was the main point of contact and such contact to the head was avoidable is not permitted.
In determining whether contact with an opponent's head was avoidable, the circumstances of the hit including the following shall be considered:
(i) Whether the player attempted to hit squarely through the opponent’s body and the head was not "picked" as a result of poor timing, poor angle of approach, or unnecessary extension of the body upward or outward.
(ii) Whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position by assuming a posture that made head contact on an otherwise full body check unavoidable.
(iii) Whether the opponent materially changed the position of his body or head immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit in a way that significantly contributed to the head contact.

In slo-mo it looks like he barely hits him...almost like his hands push his chest, but obviously he gets hit on the chin, doesnt take much to knock someone out if hit in the right spot....way worse hits like Richards on Savard etc.

First angle looks like head was primary point of contact. Larsen was pretty hunched over though

The scrum really settled down once a few players let them know that he was down and out I think.

To play devils advocate. That should have never happened in the first place but the new unwritten rule of "If thou throwseth a body check of any sort, thou shall expect recompense in the form of fists!" is stupid as hell.

Can't agree here. I think there is no suspension. He did not target the head area. Someone in the Vancouver fan posted the rule yesterday and by the rule, this is not a suspension.

yep...I can sort of understand here where the guys is knocked out cold....but on those other hits when both guys are fine....there should be game ejections. Where did the instigator penalty go??? I rarely see it called and it should be for every fight after a big hit.
