Alright, if we're going to play the trading game, how about this (after the expansion draft)?

Colorado
Barrie
2017 1st (assume it will be Top 3, maybe 1st)
2017 3rd or any prospect not named Bigras or Greer

Tampa
Drouin
Garrison

Tampa saves 2-3m in Cap space, opens a roster spot, gets a player for a year or two from then (when they don't have Cap issues) instead of immediately and gets an offensive upgrade on defense (Garrison hasn't been producing lately). Barrie, not the best defender, doesn't have to be since Tampa has Hedman.

Colorado gets a new member of the core who can play with MacKinnon, making the Top 6 lines:

Drouin - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Greer - Duchene - Landeskog

Colorado also gets a defenseman who can play defense in the Top 4 (and who also might regain some of his offensive capability...maybe). Colorado picks up a couple million in Cap hit, but has $12m+ available next season so it won't matter.

The defense becomes (Gelinas not resigned):

EJ - Tyutin/Zadorov
Garrison - Wiercioch
Beauchemin - Tyutin/Zadorov
Siemens (Bigras comes up to play, not be 7th D-man)

Or maybe Beauchemin becomes 7th and they bring up Bigras instead of Siemens.

I think Barrie and our 2017 1st would be a massive overpayment for Drouin because it's probably going to be in the top 5. Garrison isn't the same player he was 3-4 years ago. But Barrie and a third plus something else makes sense.

I like the appeal of Barrie + something for Drouin though

Barrie and 2017 1st for Drouin and Stralman. This is going to be another Yakupov draft. I'd give it up for that. Doubt they would but who knows.

Patty must have chased him away. "Stralman, are you kidding me?" (To Sakic) "We need to trade for Brad Stuart. He will be a good player fur us. What's a few 2nd Rounders worth?"

I can't see any deals right now, Sakic is staying the course. If they make any changes it would be after the Vegas expansion draft. In mean time they could get ride of the old guys for young guys if they really wanted too.

exactly, only deals I could see them doing it trying to pry guys out that other teams that have soured on.

Calvin De Haan comes to mind, hes been healthy scratched lately but thats more to do to the fact that the islanders are a hot mess too. Could they build a cheap package out for him?

Those style moves that wont cost high draft picks or core players. Other than those style moves, they will ride this out and fully re-evaluate after the season

I think the old guys getting the boot for young guys is exactly what every Avs fan would say they want right now. I'm all for it. If you look around the league most teams with good depth are already teams that have committed to go younger anyways. I'd like to see the core shift more towards the age of Mackinnon and Rantanen than Duchene and Johnson. Ship out your iggy's mitchell's soderberg's and anyone else on the wrong side of 30 for as many decent younger guys they can.

It's just too bad the ones that might be ready to make the jump are injured. I look forward to the inevitable Iginla trade along with a few other elder statesmen.

The question is, do you really want to burn a year of the ELC this year? Really colorado could just call up the guys they have been and play them over guys like McLeod, Mitchell,Comeau etc

their ELCs dont matter in this case, they dont slide like Rants did last year bc they were older when they signed on the dotted line. Their first year of ELCs count regardless of how many games they play in the NHL

Agreed, we need to dump the old guys and bring the younger guys in.

Mitchell, Mcleod, Iginla, Soderberg, Beauchemin, Tyutin, Comeau, Gelinas, Probably Bourque as well even though I'm wondering how the heck is he tied for 4th on the team in points?

I don't want to give up yet on Colborne. Grigs has talent but needs to put it all together...same with Zads. D men take longer to develop though.
