Too bad we missed out on Hall and he's not headed anywhere. I'd like to trade Barrie for a a younger Defenseman (Trouba, Hamilton, Lindholm) but doubt any of those teams would do it. I'm sure this was discussed over the summer, what about Barrie for Eberle? Maybe a combo of Bjugstad (even though he's a bit injury prone) and a good young Dman from Florida? What about a Kreider/Klein combo from NYR? Boston would offer something like Spooner/Carlo pick? Maybe even Barrie for JVR? If he's going to be traded, who would you like to get in return?

He is a victim of changing circumstances. Dude is a stay at home defense man with bugger all offensive ability that relies on positioning to be effective. He skates okay but not really good enough for today's speed first game. Very Luke Schenn-ish.

Alright, if we're going to play the trading game, how about this (after the expansion draft)?

Colorado
Barrie
2017 1st (assume it will be Top 3, maybe 1st)
2017 3rd or any prospect not named Bigras or Greer

Tampa
Drouin
Garrison

Tampa saves 2-3m in Cap space, opens a roster spot, gets a player for a year or two from then (when they don't have Cap issues) instead of immediately and gets an offensive upgrade on defense (Garrison hasn't been producing lately). Barrie, not the best defender, doesn't have to be since Tampa has Hedman.

Colorado gets a new member of the core who can play with MacKinnon, making the Top 6 lines:

Drouin - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Greer - Duchene - Landeskog

Colorado also gets a defenseman who can play defense in the Top 4 (and who also might regain some of his offensive capability...maybe). Colorado picks up a couple million in Cap hit, but has $12m+ available next season so it won't matter.

The defense becomes (Gelinas not resigned):

EJ - Tyutin/Zadorov
Garrison - Wiercioch
Beauchemin - Tyutin/Zadorov
Siemens (Bigras comes up to play, not be 7th D-man)

Or maybe Beauchemin becomes 7th and they bring up Bigras instead of Siemens.
