I am down for Duchene...Kane and a 2nd?
- Stripes77

In all seriousness though...
Kane has been playing well, and now that he's finding the back of the net, the teams that are calling will have to up their offers if they want Murray to actually consider moving him
His best play Tony guy wasn't even either goal
It was when he caused the turnover at the blueline on the play where Reinhart shot it off the post

And if we don't trade him,
I have confidence he'll continue to play well for us
Just need him to stay outta the bars

Nilsson is 5-1-1 in his last 7? Do you think we should ride that wave a little bit?

Not an indictment on Lehner, he was good last night

- sbroads24

I was one of the ppl that HATED that we brought in Nilsson
And while I don't think he really played great every game,
He's been more than good enough

Still a small sample size, but I couldn't ask for more

He's legitimately pushing Lehner for playing time
And that's probably a good thing. It should keep Lehner focused & motivated
(not that thawed was necessarily a problem with that before)

We should resign him if he continues to play well for us. Lehner is not an established #1 and Nilsson so far has been capable. Ullmark can stay in Rochester and be the starter, no need to have him ride the pine here next season. Maybe if Petersen leaves N.D., he and Ullmark can be some serious competition for each other in the AHL.

Risto, McCabe, and Guhle, I think are going to be one hell of a defense in the coming years. Do what we have to, to land Shattenkirk and we'll have our four that can roll this team in the playoffs.
- sskkoo1

I like Alzner
He's a "shutdown" type defenseman and a LH shot
That allows him to pair well with either Risto or Bogosian,
And let them skate with the puck more (which they're both good at)

Shattenkirk is MUCH better offensively,
But I think Alzner is the better fit
And with Alzner, it's more like 6per instead of 8+ per
Let the Leafs pay that nonsense contract for Shattenkirk

I don't see Shattenkirk getting more than Byfuglien (7.6m) or Burns (8m).

But if it came down to Shatt at 8 v. Alzner at 6 I take Shatt every time.

Shattenkirk is a 1/2. Alzner is a solid 3/4. Adding Shatt would fill a much bigger need, how many 3/4s do we have here already?

I also like Alzner and would like to have more of a shutdown guy so Risto can jump up in plays. I just don't think Kuli or Bogo are good enough or will ever be come contention time. We really need a top four that's just lights out to be a legit contender for the Cup. Risto, McCabe, and Ghule I believe will get us there (fingers crossed) but all three need at least 2 more seasons to reach their full potential. But that obviously leaves us needing one more, a legit #2. I don't see that guy in our system and it will take too long to draft and develop him unless we tank this year and grab Liljegren.

I don't think u can just look at strictly who's more talented
This isn't an all-star team
The "right" player isn't always the "better" one

Shattenkirk is a more offensive minded, RH shot
Just like Risto & Bogosian
He doesn't really fit here...
Unless we trade Bogosian, which I'd be ok with
But Shatty is gonna have a HUGE price tag
He'll exceed Byfuglien no problem
It's a year later, and he's a UFA
And he's better defensively than Big Buff

Yeah...
it's not like I don't like Shattenkirk
He just doesn't fit right now on our roster

We could potentially sign BOTH Shatty & Alzner,
Then trade Bogosian...
But that's A LOT of Cap space there

It comes down to the need for another top pairing guy I'm not sure if Alzner is that caliber.

I think Alzner is, "defensively"
Plus, Shattenkirk & Ristolainen are both RH shots
That does make a difference
And they're both guys u wanna see use their offensive capabilities

I just don't see them working together as a pair at all
And u can't spend that much $$$ on a guy & have him not be a "fit"

Alzner's scouting report from The Hockey News
http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/player/6208

Seems like the perfect partner for Risto or Bogo imo

I don't think he's been playing bad,
He's just scoring now

Imo, his best play tonight was when he got that turnover & then Reinhart rang one off the post

I'd like to see him cut down on penalties...
But with his style of play, we're gonna have to accept that he's gonna get some & just get out there & kill them off

With this goal scoring from Kane,
I agree with sbroads that his value in a potential trade is rising
I'm fine with keeping him though too
He's just gotta stay out of bars
