I'm amazed how upset some people get when certain statistics are questioned. Also amazed when some people overvalue statistics and put them ahead of actually watching the game. - MJL
I don't agree with that decision, unless they feel he needs to get his wind back, and whatever illness he had, affected that. A player shouldn't lose his spot in the lineup, due to a short illness. - MJL
If he had the stomach flu which I thought I saw...which I am getting over currently...it's a really good idea to get extra rest. His energy level isn't high I assure you
Since the meltdown against the Leafs the Flyers have given up only 28 goals in 12 games, which equates to a 2.33 GAA over that time period.
They have given up 4 goals 1 time (3 of which came in the final period of the game against TB)
3 goals 4 times
2 goals 5 times
1 goal 2 times.
0 goals 0 times.
Mason has been a huge part of that, but the defense has also done a very good job.
As Amac's #1 detractor, I must say he has been playing good hockey of late. He had a few aggressive plays against the Preds where I normally see him step back. I loved it. As a d-man, my biggest gripe with him is that he makes it easy for the opposition forwards when they are carrying the puck. Forsberg walked him a bit and rifled a shot low wide in the second, but aside from that he had a very solid game.
Provy has been incredible. Yes he does make a few mistakes that I would normally gripe about if it were one of the other d-men, but he is a 19 year old rookie. Thats part of the learning curve. He had a shaky few games here and there, but has settled in over the past 2-3 weeks and it is incredible to watch. He had a rush in the Chicago game where he calmly accepted the pass while skating backward in the defensive zone (between the circles) he gracefully transition into a rush in which he carried it in and got a routine shot on Darling. Darling had to cover it. People do not understand what that does for the possession game. Forget the two goals, that play still stands out to me.

I think the forwards have been much more responsible as well. The defense needs to be played by all five skaters to be effective. Theyve been pretty good at possession too outside of mainly the Boston game

There was a very bad breakdown in the Nashville game which led to the Fisher goal.
But you are right. The team D as a whole has been better.
Love having Luby in the forwards group. He is an outstanding defensive player
But it was still... the Defenseman's fault I think was the end decision of that discussion. - dragonoffrost
I dont remember a verdict...I think a few things went wrong, but oh well. I think that play was still different than some of the earlier ones that were happening this season. The Nashville play was getting burned while being aggressive...Ghost is ususally pretty darn good at picking his spots and Fisher made an awesome play.
Earlier in the season guys were just flat out not in the right position or making boneheaded plays that backfired like going down for no reason, etc.

That was on our end, and we had great seats. I remember watching, took a sip of my beer and looked up after putting the beer down and I see Wilson rumbling in and CV was the closest player to him.. He didnt play it right either, but where the ef were the d-men? I couldnt even find them on the ice. Crazy.
I get the winning line up thing but sitting Gudas is just plain stupid(if he's healthy). He's been missed the last 2 games regardless of the results. - Baxter27
