I will say we are probably one of the best fan bases for traveling to opposing arenas.

But our arena also gets invaded.

I agree. I've seen quite a few flyers road games and we are well represented. One of my fave memories was going to see them play in sunrise in 05. There were very few panthers fans and a lot of vocal flyers fans. We pretty much drowned out the panthers fans with the let's go flyers chant. Handzus scored in the shootout to win it. I really enjoyed high fiving all the flyers fans on the way out. Fantastic.

Laughton is where he belongs...He will now go the same way as Akeson-Poltulny etc.

Would love to have this kid come up and add another level of intensity like other kids have brought to the table.

Adding some offense would be a great bonus!

- konalover711

Laughton's had some stops and starts to his career that were beyond his control. Mainly, injury problems.

He needs ice time more than he needs 3rd or 4th line minutes with the big club.

Taylor Leier deserves this call-up because he's done nothing but grow and get better at the AHL level.

It was all game long.. Really cool atmosphere.

The first chant of the game was a very loud (almost felt like home) Lets go Flyers chant. Throughout the game we went back and forth. At one point there was a weak preds chant that got drowned out by a "We can't hear you" chant by the Flyers fans.. The Preds fans ROCKED it after that. As soon as it died out another Flyers chant went up.

I was with a group of 8 and we started a PECO PP chant that ended up spreading to the masses on the following PP's.

The fans there LOVE their hockey, which made for some serious fun. Great stuff.

Man. That sounds like a blast. Great to hear the Nashville fans are into it. Florida is just an embarrassment.

i dont completely agree with that. I do think Leier deserves the call up and given their roles, I would rather have Leier than Laughton, but I think Laughton needs ice time in the NHL to really improve. He has always done well at the AHL level, even this year. I think the AHL will be good for him, but getting ice time at the NHL level will be required for any big step in development

Any opinions as to why Laughton hasn't yet improved into a regular NHL guy? Is it injuries, he gets bounced around lines, game doesn't fit the bigs? Just wonder

When I've watched games from Nashville, the crowd comes over the tv broadcast so I'd say they aren't a flash in the pan market after all these years. Plus having the star power of the country music industry being fans doesn't hurt. Mr Underwood is a lucky man.

i think hes played well the last handful of games...pretty much right around when he first scored (against FLA!!!!)
- YuenglingJagr

He looked better and more confident after he scored that goal for a bit, seems to be back now to where he was before he scored.

He drives me crazy on the 2nd PP unit, he handles the puck like a yak.

They miss Couts on PP #2 a lot.

No loss in Read. After that early hot streak he returned to being a warm body.

Glad to see the youthful energy that someone like Leier can bring.

Read's metrics are all still in the positive so I'm not sure he was just a warm body.

Used to live in Boston, and my wife and I went to a game there. Definitely a Flyers fan presence and noticeable cheering when Mark Recchi scored the Flyers goal (this was back in 2004)... in fact, I recall an older Bruins fan sitting about 5 rows in front of us (up in the nosebleed seats) turn around as we were cheering Recchi's goal and just give us a cross look, and that made it even better. Unfortunately it was the only goal the Flyers got... Robert Esche had to stand on his head in the 3rd period just to get the Flyers to OT.

If there is a silver lining to Matt Read being out, it's that we don't have to listen to Pierre talk about Bemidji State University until 2017

I think it's injuries and timing, mostly.

He's always poop on breakaways but nice to see him rebound. Keeping around a competent Mason instead of breaking the bank for a guy like Bishop is more logical.

Hope they don't ride him too hard, as they have done other times while he's been in Philadelphia.

But we will hear about Leier's cat Bobo who just had uti surgery performed by veterinarian, Dr. James Libinski, who graduated from Bemindji State University, oddly enough the same university Flyers player Matt Read attended to. poop

Can't argue with that. Laughton actually has over 100 NHL games at this point, but with his injuries, it seems like he takes a while to get back on track (he's still only 22). That's why I thought the AHL would be a better option.

Maybe this is more an issue of timing as well.

Or even, this could be construed as a reward for Leier, rather than a punishment (of sorts) for Laughton. I still think Laughton is gonna be an NHL player.

I think Leier will be much more explosive than Read tonight. I'll be interested to see how well he fills the void left behind from Read's hockey sense and strong neutral zone play. Leier has also looked very weak on puck in his past opportunities. Needs to make an impact this time around.

Akeson and Poltulny were lesser talents. Potulny was a 3rd round pick, and Akeson was undrafted I believe. The door is not closed on Laughton.

I get the winning line up thing but sitting Gudas is just plain stupid(if he's healthy). He's been missed the last 2 games regardless of the results.
