Greetings all,

Noob in the house so I felt it would be appropriate to give a bit of an intro while dispelling the immediate 'alt' account warriors.

Believe it or not have been reading Canuck's/Carol's blogs on Hockeybuzz for about 5 years and only today (finished) setting up an account as I'm long overdue to post a comment or 2. Every time I think I should complete the registration and post, I come across another post shredding nighthawk or some other poor schlep and I back off (kinda like not being able to P before a long road trip because someone knocked).

I am very familiar with the crowd, more than you would think but that's how lurkers roll. I know CanucksDon isn't really a Don and is the captain of the Vegas cheer leading squad. I'm familiar with Marwood's Jazz cigarettes and ASL's woodshed (or wood pile whichever you prefer) these play significant roles in my own ability to cope in these dark Canuck times. I know that Vantel is Jim Benning and Redmile is Michael Ferklund (I made that last one up but he does remind me....). Speaking of nighthawk, I promise to spell out every word and keep that grammer tight. Makita, in my mind's eye is really just the old guy from the Karate Kid - at least that's the vision. He and Vantel sure like their grape. Codes, Leftcoast, Lord Huge, Golfing Since, Retinalz, Belcher, etc etc etc.

I'm going to probably look for my chance to flag someone right away here and get that out of the way and then wait for a pm from Makita on the reality that someone saying "flagged" doesn't mean click the little flag icon.

I follow Carol on Twitter so I know immediately when the new blogs are up. I'm @bowel_auger "Opiated Nucksfan" on Twitter. I am a Canucks season ticket member 4 years running and plan to be again next year. I don't gauge whether I'll renew on someone else's sob stories about asset management or whether the GM is better at drafting than they are at GM'ing. I'm old enough to say I've followed the team since inception into the league and have done hard time along with everyone before things got rolling (I survived the Troy Gamble years) I'm a canucks fan and a hockey fan. Period. This year I find myself entertained by the team which is the purpose of season tickets in the first place. I'm not expecting playoffs this year per se, but I will gladly do 1 round and out in the playoffs only because it makes this blog so much more interesting I'm not a draftist or a tankster, just let the dam chips fall where they may.

Ok - that's about it, let me have it...and No, this is not nighthawk.

Welcome bowel_auger, cool but painful sounding user name.

And I would never take you for nighthawk, you can actually type and have structured paragraphs, although you do sound like you're just as old. Which is the same age as I am...

Oh one more word of advice, no criticisms are allowed, only praise for the young guys...

My advice is turn off your TV for 8 years come back when we have a perfect D and
8 first overall picks. This team is the worst team in the history of hockey and the managers are as dumb as sh!t.

Has benning been actually been good at drafting?

Seems like he’s taking advantage of contract risk other gm’s have stayed away from. Guys like boeser, demko and trymatkin all had more contract risk than guys in the chl.

It’s actually worked out from him pretty well so far. But i don't think it speaks to better scouting abilities than other gm's.

Why do people continue to pound the drum of a rebuild? This is not the year to do it, there's no player right now in this draft class that is going to be that one difference maker. And besides, you need more than a superstar to build around, you need depth around them. Just let the season play out and worry about the team after next season when the Sedins contracts expire.

True, but obtaining that superstar is a lot more difficult than finding filler. Get the superstar first and then build around. What's the point of building a support system for a superstar when you don't have that superstar?

Seems ass backwards to me.

Do you by any chance remember how they got Laine?? Pure dumb luck. That's my point right there. You can tank all you want to give yourself the great odds, alienate your fanbase and create a laughing stock as you do it, but you can still be undone by dumb luck.
- NorthNuck

Sure. But finishing in last place insures a top-4 pick (odds are top2 really). Winnipeg had a 7.5% chance to win, its not that lucky. They change to lottery to try to stop teams from tanking, but tanking still gives you best odds to get those top two picks. You don't finish 10th-14th hoping to get lucky. Toronto and Buffalo just did exactly what were talking about and got Eichel (pretty dam good consolation prize) and Matthews.

2012 draft, with us getting a top 10 pick tho.

Trouba, Dumba, Forsberg, Reily or Galchenyuk are welcome on my team.

- dbot

What about the rest of the players drafted top 10 in that draft? After 4 years only 3 of them are top line players.
take a look at the 2013 draft with one less years. Mackinnon, Barkov, Jones, Lindholm, Monahan, Ristolianen, Horvat.

Also someone mentioned the Canucks "can't" finish in the bottom 3 this year... what team have you been watching?

I think you must be confused, it's impossible to rebuild while maintaining a competitive team.

I this because it's applicable to everything about the on-ice product.

"Trade the coach, fire the defense, waive the GM (but keep his daughter)..." It's the same feces everyday.

THERE ISN'T A PERSON ALIVE WHO COULD FIX THIS MESS ANYTIME SOON.

Carol the blog is legit AF but what makes it great is that you just present the facts, its minimally editorialized. The opinions in here are worse than cancer. I read all 40 pages from Saturday night. It took me 3 days, and I lost a lot of hair, but I made it.

I'm fine to debate whether Marky or Miller should start, or what we should reasonably consider trading for a guy like Kane, but the female doging and whining about a bad team being bad is insufferable unless it's comical as above.
