Totally agree. But last night's game showed that somewhere within him, he still had that lioneater side to him. He could still hit people through the boards and muscle the puck to the net. So, if his problem is Disco's system then for the benefit of his NHL career, screw Disco's system. And, I get, it's a team and everyone has to buy into the system, but last night's Girgs was a helluva lot more fun to watch and that type of play can serious up his trade value if things come down to that.

They didn't really do that though. They simply got beat to the spot about 90% of the time. Like I said last night, if they were merely dumping the puck in when they reached center ice, I would agree, but they weren't doing that. They were still trying to attack the net in the 3rd. They just got shut down by a better team. When the Capitals got desperate, the Sabres didn't know how to respond.

They played a solid game against one of the best teams in the league with a d-core made up of spare parts. I was thrilled with last nights performance tbh.

The bottom of that list brings the top of that list down to an average forward group, perhaps even a little worse. It's even more of a factor when you consider the top of that list isn't even fully healthy. While the cheerleading over the past few weeks has been cute and all, the fact remains that this team still isn't quite there yet, and that doesn't even begin to speak of the sub-par defense corps they have, even when healthy.

If the forward group is as good as we are supposed to believe they are, they still figure out a way to close that game out.

I'm not that upset with the result either. In fact, I expected it after the 2nd intermission, because this team is exactly the type of team I expected them to be at the beginning of the year.
