As it stands now he's clearly one of their top 4, not even close.

Who else would they protect as of now?

if they can protect 3 - which I believe is the default for d-men..

it will be Gardiner, Rielly and Carrick - and I don't believe they need to protect Zaitsev as he'll technically be a free-agent. I would assume that Lou will want to sign Zaitsev, but would not announce the signing in order to effectively unofficially protect another d-man.
