We should trade a couple of our prospects for a proven veteran goalie like Fleury
- WingmanWillie

Definitely!

MLSE is too cheap and don't give a crap about winning. Fleury is exactly the kind of guy who can help us be contenders this year.

One thing is for sure, LV will have a better team than Vancouver...
- bobbyisno1

Only 4pts out of a wildcard...much like the leafs.

And the leafs haven't had any injuries yet.

It would be like when the Mighty Ducks moved Goldberg to defence in D3!

Still no clue who their backup was.

I can't see them doing that. Not worth it.

Leafs are a rebuilding team... Vancouver's holding on to mediocrity with a death grip.

Traded Sundins rights to Montreal, instead of re-signing him.
- bobbyisno1

Ahh... you got me on a technicality. Nicely done.

The Leafs gave permission to Montreal to talk to Mats Sundin but did they receive any compensation for him? I honestly don't recall but I don't think so (maybe the Habs would have had to if they successfully signed him...? Not sure).

Anyway, the point here is that the Leafs didn't trade Sundin when he had some value left. Had Mats waived his NTC they could have landed at least something significant for a guy they had no plans on resigning in the off-season. It made A LOT of sense to trade him at that point -- which is sort of, well, my point.

Pretty sure Kesler was part of the package coming back for Mats at the time.

The entire first round in next year's draft is just going to be chicken Swedes who don't like to fight.

You can't win with those guys!

I'd rather use those picks to get a wily vet who will make a difference now.

You're right. Probably called up some scrub from double AA midget. Didn't warrant any screen time.

Also isn't it 1 fewer point with 1 more game played?

I actually wouldn't mind a healthy Lupul on Matthews wing.

Which part do you disagree with?

Cap is limited.
Marner, Nylander, and Matthews will all be looking for new contracts at the same time, probably can throw Brown and Soshnikov in there too.

Our biggest weakness right now is the d-corps, and Zaitsev is going to be looking for a raise, and if we're looking for a top-pairing guy, you're probably looking at paying someone a 7M cap-hit in a few years.

And then there are all the other holes that will pop up and need to be filled over the years.

Committing big bucks long term to a position we're already strong at for a guy who's good, but not elite... doesn't seem like the best use of cash.

- Feeling Glucky?

I agree we have a weakness on D.
I disagree with trading a proven scorer with size to acquire help.
We have promising assets in Dermott/Neilsen/Valiev that may help solve the problem in a year or two.
I also trust that the management team can manage the cap issues, particularly with the expiring contracts of Laich, Michalek etc and get rid of second tier players like Bozak and Komarov, rather than a proven scorer.
