I would argue that Jordan Staal is equivalent (or better) than them defensively, but is significantly behind them in terms of offensive talent.

He's a tremendous player in almost every other facet of the game, he just isn't very good at actually putting the puck in the net.

I'm not sure why the Jays were so glued to 4 year 80 mill. EE's asking price wasnt outrageous and the owners have a poopload of money. O well. I hope he go's to the NL although it doesnt sound like thats going to happen either.

Our prospect pool is practically bare bones too. Trading is going to be a little more difficult. Its win now mode for the Jays.

At least if they sign somewhere the Jays get a first round pick compensation. I bet it's a reason why EE and Bauts is having a tough time getting the money they want. Teams have to pay a 1st round pick AND a boat load of cash/term.

EE should have taken the 80/4 it sounds like but I also believe the Jays stuck to it so they look like they are trying to sign EE as a PR move and when they walk away (as they did) they can look good to fans.

for all the joking around and complaints about this kid, being too slow - he isn't - apparently he's quite a good consistent penalty killer and was so last year particularly with Soshkinov.

I still don't understand why the Leafs claimed Smith and took on the the pro contract when they had Froese and the Goat both available.
