Ottawa made an astute move by acquiring Condon.
I am sure Uncle Lou has a plan. |

Lots of dead wood coming off the cap. Laich/Greening/Michalek and soon probably Bozak, Hunwick, etc.
I am sure the deep thinkers can figure out a way. - Rang
the issue isn't short-term.
if jvr is looking for something like $6.5 over 8 years, than see ya later. The cap is limited and that money is better spent elsewhere imo. |

Halak is a decent goalie and would be a good upgrade on Enroth. Doubt it will happen but let EK know. - Leafsandbolts
Remind us why the Leafs would potentially tie up $10M in cap for the next couple years when the #1G is already here, not to mention that the Leafs can only protect 1G in the expansion draft?
NYI would have to basically have to give Halak away and add big time for that to happen.
So, what is NYI adding?

E) The Leafs are loaded with wingers. We also have two on the Marlies (wingers) who are ready for NHL duty. The top scorer in the WHL is a Leaf prospect who is a winger. We have a great winger at the top of the OHL. We need a good D man. Preferably top two guy. Jvr plus something else might get us a good one. At least a top 4. We can afford to trade a winger away and JVR would give us the best return. (not counting the kids) - sparky
If JVR alone doesn't get a second pairing D-man why would you trade him? |

I'll pass on signing jvr until he's 37.
I'd rather pay more in dollars and limit term.
Something like $7m over 6 years. Even that is pretty risky. |

Backup goalie demotions are a good enough reason to blogblock, apparently.

Looks like the Penguins are actively shopping M.A Fleury. Trying to get something for him now, rather than losing him in the expansion draft

Which part do you disagree with?
Cap is limited.
Marner, Nylander, and Matthews will all be looking for new contracts at the same time, probably can throw Brown and Soshnikov in there too.
Our biggest weakness right now is the d-corps, and Zaitsev is going to be looking for a raise, and if we're looking for a top-pairing guy, you're probably looking at paying someone a 7M cap-hit in a few years.
And then there are all the other holes that will pop up and need to be filled over the years.
Committing big bucks long term to a position we're already strong at for a guy who's good, but not elite... doesn't seem like the best use of cash. |

Like all goalies, he grew up dreaming of playing for the Leafs.
This is a great place for goalies.
Maybe even better than Philly... |

Trade Sundin
Trade Kessel
Trade JVR
The solution to getting better is to trade away your best players.
Somehow, this makes sense to people. - Rang
1. Sundin - We didn't trade him though it would have been nice for us had we been able to when he was about to go UFA.
2. Kessel - While we'll never know the answer to this, I'm pretty sure had we kept Phil we wouldn't have finished in the basement and won the Auston Matthews sweepstakes. Last year the Leafs lost a lot of 1-goal games -- the last thing that would have been helpful would be for Kessel to have made us more competitive.
3. JVR - The Leafs need a quality defenceman and JVR is the only attractive asset we have that has value and isn't one of our kids. I'd rather not trade him but if he can be packaged for a Fowler or Trouba -- it makes a lot of sense to do this deal considering the crazy W depth we have in the minors/juniors. |

Traded Sundins rights to Montreal, instead of re-signing him. |

They can really put anybody in there. Any scrub from the farm, any waiver claim, and they would do just as well as he has done. Pretty bad |

We should trade a couple of our prospects for a proven veteran goalie like Fleury |
