I'm beginning to wonder if we'll be able to give Fleury away.

I can't see a team wanting him and his contract. I've always been a Fleury supporter / defender / apologist, but I don't think he'll ever regain top form on a consistent basis. I don't think he's a goalie that can put a team over the top anymore, so I just don't see him having much value or demand, especially with his contract.

He's really not that expensive. His pay is basically league average. Plus you only get to year of terms compared to someone like bishop who will get paid more and likely a lot of term. You should be able to give away fleury if his play is a top 20 goaltender because of the limited term and league average salary. Problem is finding a fit.

Fleury's salary ranks 14th highest, but he is only 350K behind Holtby at 6th highest. His save percentage ranks 36th. So, there are A LOT of goalies currently making and will make over the next 2 seasons after this season a lot less than Fleury who are / likely will outperform Fleury. That's the point I'm making. Of course, most of those other goalies aren't available, but some / many are / will be.

I think Fleury is a tough sell at this point. Acquiring teams will have to have cap space AND faith that Fleury can return to being a top 10-15 goalie / have the ability to lead a team to a Cup. To me, that's a stretch. If the Pens can dump all of Fleury's salary and not take any or take minimal salary back, that's a win (Fleury for any draft pick / any prospect). If the Pens can get net salary cap space, no or short term, and a capable backup goalie, that's a win, too (Fleury for Niemi straight up, for example - they are statistically even this season, BTW).

Your citing a small sample size. And outside of save percentage he gets bonus points for ability to play a lot of games and character. Limited term adds attractiveness. I don't think he's a huge trade asset but if he didn't have a partial ntc I think he would be easy to trade. His ability to block the most logical moves can complicate that.

Also going to guess most of the cheaper goalies are on rfa deals. Absolute worst case I think we eat 750k.

Maybe making a case to be that 2nd pairing RD? Would be nice if they could plug him in Daley's spot.

I don't think so. I've been loving Schultz every since he arrived, but such a big part of his success is how he's been used by Sullivan. It will put the Pens in a precarious situation because his play will increase his value and become too much money for a player playing a bottom pair role.

They'll probably lose him to Vegas.

Not sure about the stats & the relative difference in salaries & term, but Flower has experience & has shown he can carry a team. I think he's put under difficult circumstances (as has Murray) that should be taken into consideration. His play last season was very good, & if he's left to play as starter here he can probably regain form.

The thing that irks me is he always lets an easy 1 in at Inappropriate times & sometimes can't recover. Now we are very hard judges & can't accept these 'issues', but he still carried the team last season with those. I think another team probably can get over these issues, & having a very reasonable contract & known term, would be a very good acquisition especially considering his ability to lift the room with his character. Without Murray, I think I would be happy to keep him. I just think Murray is a better option moving forward.

Exactly what difficult circumstances has murray been put under? Coming in to backstop a team that went into the playoffs playing lights out hockey?

Coming in and backstopping a team to a Stanley Cup victory as a rookie.

Sharing a crease with a well liked veteran and remaining a professional, and good.

Giving up the first goal and keeping his calm during many playoff games.
