But yeah, shoot a guy in front of witnesses, get arrested but be released without charge as of yet because he's been cooperative. Can you imagine the outrage if a black guy shot and killed a white athlete?

Just read the story and can't believe it.

White guy is seen by multiple witnesses pulling black guy out of his car, then shooting him multiple times to end a scuffle.

Black guy - now dead - unarmed by all accounts.

White guy waits for cops to arrive after shooting, hands them his gun, claims self defense and is later released without charges.

Un(frank)ingbelievable. I would imagine that if their races were reversed, the shooter would have been shot by police before he could hand over his gun.

Tossing someone in jail on its own doesn't really help anything. It's sure as poop not a deterrent either. Not everyone is a lost cause, and not everyone is alright mentally when they commit a crime. An attempt to rehabilitate makes more sense in a lot of cases, something the USA fails spectacularly at. Much of Europe has the right idea but it's still a work in progress.

It's unfortunate. Rehabilitation in the states isn't the main focus of the prison system because it's so privatized. Sending (and keeping) people (mainly minorities) in prison is big business.

And it creates a vicious cycle when there's no regulations on state or federal legislators, or even Sheriffs/Chiefs being able to invest in private prison companies.

Correct, but to release without charge when there is overwhelming witness testimony of a capital crime committed with at best minor provocation is shocking. Consider all of the issues recently with violence of police towards Black Americans, and then this? It's (frank)ing pathetic.
