Ah, yes, the battle cry of the loser.
- Scoob

For the last 5 years, Sens fans have religiously blamed the team not making the playoffs on bad reffing, injuries (umm, Kyle Turris is your number 1 centre, and you just added Phaneuf preaching that he's a big improvement over what was there..... perhaps, just maybe, there are a few more issues than Clarke Mac(frank)ingArthur missing games. Clarke Macarthur) , and too many games on Sundays.

Fire another coach. Short change another captain, chase him out of town. Rinse, Repeat.

At the time Gratton was coming off a pretty monster season though if i remember right..I want to say something like 30 goals and 200 PIM ?
- opeth_pa

He had a pretty good year the year before and was still pretty young at the time (I think he was like 22).

It just wasn't an area of need at the time. Plus they traded away a player that already was a fit with the team that everyone liked.

The fact that one of their guys had like 4 minor penalties throughout the night is a non factor to them apparently

I found this article from when they finally got rid of Gratton and brought back Renberg:

http://articles.mcall.com...ael-renberg-chris-gratton

I must have chosen to forget that they Flyers gave Gratton a $9 million dollar signing bonus. That was back in 1997. Adjusting for inflation, that bonus comes out to about $13.5 million dollars in today's dollars.

Think about a team dropping that kind of coin for someone like Chris Gratton today.

If it weren't for lockouts and expansion teams in small markets we probably would still see it!

I've always said that putting 2 teams in Florida, 1 in Atlanta, 1 in Phoenix, and and 1 in Columbus were some of the best moves ever made by the NHL, helping to ensure this hootenanny doesn't happen any more.

From the last thread re AMac:

He had a solid game, except for a boneheaded icing at the end of the 3rd. Still for 5 million per, it's nothing to write home about.

No MJL, it doesn't kill me to write that he had a good game. I want every Flyer to succeed as much as possible. What kills me is that AMac isn't playing the way he did last night every game. For 5 million per season, last night's effort is the minimum that I would hope and expect each and every night. He absolutely played well last night and I'm glad to see and say it. However, he needs to do this on a long term consistent basis before I get excited about or change my opinion of the player and his value to the team.

As I've said numerous times before, If he had been signed to a 4 year, 15 million dollar deal, I wouldn't be complaining. However when you are signed for 30 million over 6 years, like it or not, the bar gets raised. And, on way to many nights, his performance has not reached the level it needs to be at. The player has spent time in the minors and has, at times, been a healthy scratch. You would expect more from someone being paid 5 million per season.

I've been following the Flyers since the early 70's and I want the franchise and each and every player to succeed. It gives me no pleasure whatsoever when they don't.

Regardless of what good or bad games Mac has, my issue with him is, he's surfering on the wave of one good season, which was his final season with the Islanders that saw him land here. At the start of that very season, I didn't even know who Andrew Macdonald was and we probably played the Islanders six times a season prior to the trade. My first introduction to him we're the rumors of him being traded out of Long Island. If any of you asked me at the start of 13-14 season Andrew MacDonald was, I would either pretended like I do or blatantly said, "Who is Andrew MacDonald?" because I think it's funny not to know who Islanders players are....because they suck.

Stupid coaching move by Boucher to use a challenge on an icing.
- MJL

There was no need to use the timeout at any point in later in the game. In hindsight, its always easier to say things, but it was a game time decision. The play was in the sens zone and players were on a 1:30 shift and were exhausted. They iced the puck so they couldn't change shifts. I am a sens fan and I don't see this as being a bad decision. He acted when he felt he needed to and the Senators organisation has been plagued in the recent years with a series of coaches that never acted when they should have. This timeout prevented a most likely goal. In my opinion, this is one of the two scenarios in which a timeout should be used (relax players after icings and to challenge a goal).

Dude, what are you talking about? Senators didn't have reasons to blame their missfortunes and failures, but there was a mess to pick up. Guy Boucher has improved the team a lot in a matter of a few months; they are now a top team in the league thus far this season. I don't see why you're complaining? Are you butt hurt or something?

The Bryz deal is #1. Nothing else comes close.

Nine years for a 31-year old goalie.

Somebody after the first period tweeted at Jake last night, "down 2-0 maybe a little less worrying about the crowd and more about play. Keep your eye on the puck ,not ear on the crowd." And Jake RTed it and said "What was that?" He did it minutes after the game too.

Meh, I think they've won some games because some ridiculous amount of games (like 15 or 16 so far) have been against non-playoff teams.

When they run into better teams, they get outplayed. Like last night. Soundly outshot, outplayed, and top players shine.

Like Giroux. Beauty OT goal. And that goal by Del Zotto was a nice snipe. Could have been a Sens penalty on the play for interference, in front of the net too. One hell of a hook.
