The defense was brutal with the turnovers. They are not a bunch of rookies where they should turn it over like that and panic with the puck.

seidenberg's no look pass right to the other team in perfect scoring position was something else alright

Forwards have to do a much better job helping out as well. JT's line got caught up the ice on one of the goals.

That was one of my biggest problems with this team all season. Forwards all up at the red line while the D is looking for a breakout pass. They were good about that against the Pens & Caps. Apparently they've gone back to their losing ways. Interesting how when they close that gap, support, and give their D-men outlet options, they win. When they don't, they lose. Hmmmmm. I'm sure Crappy already knows this. That long stretch pass is bound to work at some point. Keep doing it.

I remember during the lockout season when they made the playoffs and lost to the Pens. They turned around the season because they finally understood the need to close the gap. The d play all of a sudden got better.

You have to close the gap, give your D-men passing options. When they play high, at the red line, the opposition sends pressure and the D is forced to try to make a 100' pass. When they turn it over, the other team cycles, the Isles start chasing the puck in panic mode, they get tired, boom, goal. That's the whole season in a nut shell so far. Save for a few games. But the Isles get lauded for leading the league in blocked shots.

They've done that several times this season. 3 times off the top of my head. Intercepted pass right up the middle because there's no support.

By the way, where's Dan's 'bigger story'? Thought he'd have it up by now.

You can't rush Dan and Noel a/k/a the Woodward and Bernstein of Hockeybuzz.

My favorite beer. Better in a draft
- Cptmjl

One of my favorites as well Cpt.
I was in one of their Beer gardens in Germany this summer and it was even better from their tap.
This should be on the bucket list if you haven't been.

This team has no concept of what 3 on 3 hockey means. It is beyond frustrating to watch them give the puck up so easily and get caught in these odd man rushes constantly. JT on one shift tried to beat a guy all by himself and ended up caught trailing the play from way behind causing an odd man rush.. twice. They scored on the second one. When you watch other teams they hold possession forever in the offensive zone moving it around and often shift players 1 at a time to get fresh legs. Then when they beat someone they find the open guy for a high percentage chance.

They don't just charge the net, take a shot and scramble to get back in time. The overtime games that we have won is almost a miracle to me watching what this team is doing on the ice. I will not even discuss who this dope keep putting on the ice. Chimera? really?

Playing the part of really horrific Vet "Depth signing" that Capuano plays top 4 minutes this year will be Seidenberg. On the upside he is worlds better than strait, but still horrific.

Frans's recent interview was kind of interesting, in that he was talking about getting used to Detroit's system after years of playing the Islanders' system. He talked about having to learn Detroit's puck possession strategy vs. the Islanders' "heavy forecheck" which he said was a much simpler system.

My interpretation of Nielsen's comments? "It's taking me some time to learn an actual system, as opposed to the Islanders' simple-minded dump-and-chase."

Hey JS, do you really think Cappy has a complex or highly structured system.

PS. Thought Frans played great yesterday in his new system.

After all these years, the staff and players should understand how to play the game at this point. This team does not have a bunch of rookies.

Ummm.....no. That's why I posted Frans's comments.

And yeah, Frans played pretty well. Not as impressive as Green or Zetterberg, but not bad.

Frans was a little motivated playing his old team. It's the only explanation as to why he played JT a little rough.
