The reason you can't "fathom" it is because sometimes, you can be an unbearable fanboy.
You often come across as a know-it-all. You often bully or berate people when their opinion differs from yours and worse: You are so biased on your opinion, you actually DO believe the Avs are only one or two "analytical stats" away from being a good hockey team.
Once again (and no amount of "analytical B.S." is going to sugar-coat this), the Avs are cellar-dwellers before most of us are even singing "Jingle Bells". If you think the odd lucky bounce here and there or a little higher shooting percentage would have a large effect on the overall results this year, you are deluding yourself.
Most people who post here (other than the game-day trolls from other teams) ARE fans. Many of them have been posting here and following the Avs longer than you have. It might be frustrating to you that some people only come here to complain, but hey... It's a free country and this IS a DISCUSSION forum and to those of us who spend money on Center Ice and game tickets and spend hundreds of hours a year watching the Avs play, the years since Roy has been in net have, for the most part, been disappointing.
No, it doesn't help the TEAM a darn bit when people come here and complain (any more than it HELPS the team when you suggest lineups or post useless analytical stats) but sometimes, the best outlet people have for their frustrations IS to come here and complain and there is nothing wrong with that. They've got just as much right to their opinion as you do to yours.
So, next time you are tempted to go all fanboy on somebody who posts something you disagree with, maybe you should just bite your tongue and let them have their say.
If the Avs are tops of the league come Spring, you get to gloat about how right you were and we can all bow down to your superior knowledge. Until then, just keep in mind that RIGHT NOW, the Avs are next-to-last in the league and no statistical analyses is going to make that fact easier to swallow. - AdamFrench

You cannot use goal scoring to assess how good a team is. Scoring a goal is too uncommon an event to be reliable.

I just need to know how many shot attempts = high quality scoring chance
then I need to know how man high quality scoring chances are needed to = an expected goal then I need to know how many expected goals turn into actual goals
Once I know all that we will be able to calculate how many shot attempts we need to make back up due to a Jake Gardiner turnover.
After all that i'll be able to understand the game of hockey a lot better.

It is not about that. It is about the players Luck%... the difference between Expected Goals and Actual Goals.
Gardiner is unlucky in that his opponents have a tremendous luck%. eventually it will regress to the mean. Everything regresses to the mean. The size of the QoC doesn't matter. Goaltending doesn't matter. Goal scoring doesn't matter.
You are far from being capable of understanding this and I am dumber for having tried to explain it to you.

Meh. We'll probably get fined when Marner knocks Stetcher out, Matthews knocks Horvat out, Nylander knocks Burrows out and Brown and Andersen stamp on both Sedin's heads.
Has Dorsett wussed out already? |

an early staged fight with martin vs. gudbranson, where martin dies, could defuse the whole thing. |

Well, it'll be the last game Martin ever plays, that's for sure.

Sadly, the follow up games are usually quite anti-climactic. Maybe one tilt near the beginning of the game, then the refs keep rest under wraps. |

Nah, it will be uneventful.
Except for canuck fans...theyll see every hit and minor play as "ha ha...take that Toronto!"
We'll be like "buddy relax, its just an icing whistle" |

I find Chinese much easier to understand backwards. I order a lot of stuff off the back page of the menu.
