No, that even when healthy they are mediocre at best. I dont want them to just be a hang around 9th/10th place and hope you luck into a playoff spot. That's essentially what we'd be betting on with this current group. I want them in so that it helps set them up for a real run next year in eichel and reinharts last elc years. And I think if management is honest with themselves about the current group they have they could make them moves to put this team in a better spot as early as this year. Based on what ive read I'm HOPEFUL that they are.

It's tough for me because usually it's a progression. They were out of it last year, no question, I think the natural progression would be fighting for the last playoff spot and then making a decent run next year. Again, I see many comparisons here to wanting a a perennial contender like the Hawks or Pens, look at their draft history in the first round. For almost a decade they were picking top ten, for the Hawks, multiple first round picks dating back from about 2000. The Sabres have two straight second overall picks. And a WHOLE bunch from the previous regime that didn't work. It takes time and things are looking better, I still think playoffs are an possibility this year and from there who knows? But let's see what happens, it's early in the season, the Sabres had a ton of injuries and they're still close with those guys coming back. This could get VERY interesting.

Remember, Andy Dufresne never would've made it through his ordeal with the sisters if it weren't for hope. I think that's what Kaiser is saying.
